Nightdive Studios has announced that the remake of the classic game System Shock, originally released in 2023, will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2 on December 18th.
The updated version of the game was initially released on PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG on May 30, 2023. It then became available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 21, 2024.
Nightdive Studios producer Justin Khan stated in a press release that the Nintendo Switch version of System Shock is performing well and looks great. He believes it could be considered a remarkable technical achievement, similar to how DOOM (2016), Wolfenstein, and The Witcher 3 were impressive feats on the Switch. Nightdive Studios is confident fans will be happy with how System Shock runs and the features added for Nintendo consoles.
Nightdive Studios aimed to create a System Shock port for the Nintendo Switch that would be as technically impressive as DOOM (2016) and The Witcher 3. To do this, they kept the game’s advanced lighting effects, which was a significant challenge for the Switch’s hardware. The team is very proud of what they’ve accomplished and hopes fans will agree it’s a remarkable port.

About
Nightdive Studios beautifully recreated the 1994 sci-fi action game, System Shock, and it was highly praised when it came out on PCs in 2023 and consoles in 2024. Now, Nintendo players will finally get to experience this classic title. They’ll face off against SHODAN, the menacing AI, as they explore the eerie Citadel Station.
The new remake of System Shock reimagines the classic game with modern HD graphics, improved controls, a redesigned interface, and completely new audio. Players will explore the treacherous Citadel Station, now overrun by a terrifying army of mutated creatures controlled by the menacing AI, SHODAN. To escape, you’ll need to use a combination of stealth, smarts, and powerful futuristic weapons while navigating challenging puzzles, traps, and hidden secrets.
While making the new version of the game, Nightdive Studios collaborated with people who originally worked on System Shock, including Terri Brosius – the voice of the famous villain SHODAN.
The Nintendo Switch versions of System Shock will offer several improvements, such as compatibility with the Joy-Con 2 mouse, gyro aiming, and features fans have been asking for. When played docked, the game will run at up to 1440p with a smooth 60 frames per second, and in handheld mode on the Switch 2, it will run at 1080p at 60 frames per second.
