Team17 and Sonka have partnered to bring the psychological survival horror game Holstin to players worldwide. The game will be released on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam).
Team17 has long admired Holstin and is thrilled to be working with Sonka to launch their game, according to Team17 General Manager Harley Homewood. They praised Sonka as a highly skilled team who have developed a survival horror game with a uniquely chilling atmosphere and inventive gameplay. Team17 plans to share more details with fans soon.
Rafal Sankowski, CEO of Sonka and game director of Holstin, described the game as a psychological horror experience set in a creepy, remote Polish town from the 1990s. A dark force has taken hold, and the townspeople seem possessed. Players will need to investigate the decaying town, question the locals, and battle terrifying creatures to uncover the truth.
Here is an overview of the game, via Team17:
About
Originally revealed by Sonka in early 2023, Holstin has been gaining popularity due to its distinctive art style, cutting-edge technology, and its unusual setting in 1990s Poland. The developers have consistently shared playable demos to showcase the game’s potential. Now, Sonka is teaming up with Team17 to build on this success and bring Holstin to a wider audience.
Drawing inspiration from iconic games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Holstin aims for a mysterious and unsettling story reminiscent of Twin Peaks. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Key Features
- Explore a Possessed Town – Something is very wrong in the town of Jeziorne-Kolonia. The streets are overrun by some kind of filthy slime. The people, the buildings, and the wildlife all seem to be slowly deteriorating from the inside.
- Fight and Survive Against Unfathomable Monstrosities – Scavenge for scarce supplies and weapons to fight off the twisted monstrosities now roaming the darkest corners of the town.
- Speak to Locals Slowly Losing Their Minds – Sanity among the locals seems to be slowly slipping away, but they are the only ones who can get you the answers you need. You will have to play along with their unnerving delusions and try to understand their festering world to get anywhere.
- Playing All Sorts of Tricks on Your Eyes – Holstin uses Sonka’s custom 2XD Rendering technology to deliver real-time lighting in detailed hand-drawn pixel art to uniquely combine multiple camera perspectives, including isometric 3D, third-person shooting, first-person driving, top-down exploration, and side-scrolling platforming.
- Full Voice Acting in Polish and English – Chillingly manic performances in both English and Polish bring every character in Holstin to life.
