It feels like ages since a new BioShock game came out, and it’s been almost seven years since plans for the next one were first announced.
The launch of the new game has been rocky, and Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, admits they wasted time. He explained in an interview with Game File that the game couldn’t really move forward until Cloud Chamber, the development studio, got new leadership. When asked if he was surprised by the game’s lengthy development, Zelnick said he felt something other than surprise.
Yes, I’m definitely disappointed. It proved difficult to find the right creative direction, and looking back, we spent a lot of time and money pursuing ideas that didn’t work out.
I have to give it to the team for recognizing when their initial vision for the new BioShock wasn’t quite hitting the mark. It’s encouraging to hear that Rod Fergusson, after successfully launching Diablo 4, is now leading the charge. Apparently, Strauss Zelnick is already impressed with the progress, saying they’re aiming to take the game from just ‘good’ to truly ‘great,’ and I’m really hoping we get to hear more soon!
I know it feels like forever, but I’m really hoping the next BioShock game – whatever they end up calling it – is amazing when it finally comes out. I’m trying to stay patient and believe the wait will be worth it!
