Taylor Sheridan & Sylvester Stallone’s New Crime Series Gets First Look As Filming Officially Begins

The grind never ends for Sylvester Stallone and Taylor Sheridan.

Sylvester Stallone’s work on Tulsa King was his first leading role in a scripted television series, and it helped Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone, further build his popular brand. In 2025, another series connected to Sheridan’s universe was announced, this time starring Samuel L. Jackson as a criminal navigating an unfamiliar world, much like Stallone’s character Dwight Manfredi.

Filming has started in North Texas for the upcoming series Frisco King, bringing the show closer to release. Stallone and Paramount+ shared behind-the-scenes photos and videos on social media, giving fans a sneak peek.

I just saw some awesome behind-the-scenes stuff from the new show! There’s a picture of Jackson and Stallone, both in costume, looking over the script and clearly having a good laugh between shots. And there’s a video too, where Stallone actually interviews Jackson about playing the lead role – it’s really cool to see them talking about the project!

Sam, we’re here to kick off your new show,” Stallone says. “Which is what?

Frisco King,” Jackson replies, adding, “Am I a king yet? I’m working on it.”

“You’re doing really well,” Stallone told his co-star. He added that their first scene together went wonderfully and predicted the show would be excellent. Stallone finished by praising Jackson’s performance, saying, “He’s amazing—you won’t want to miss this.”

Production is starting on Frisco King after some behind-the-scenes changes, including a new showrunner and a shift in location from New Orleans to Frisco, Texas. Actor Jackson will portray Russell Lee Washington Jr., a hitman previously seen in season 3 of Tulsa King. Taylor Sheridan has written all eight episodes of the first season.

In March, the upcoming film Frisco King announced new cast members: Asa Germann (known for Scream 7), Savanna Gann (English Teacher), Lilah Pate (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and Kai Caster from Yellowstone.

In a 2025 Instagram post, Sylvester Stallone described what it was like working with his Tulsa King co-star, Jackson. He explained that some actors simply elevate a set, saying, “When Jackson arrived, everything changed. He brought an incredible energy, and we were all on edge, hoping we wouldn’t lose that spark.”

ScreenRant praised season 3 of Tulsa King, highlighting how the show’s focus on characters and skillful handling of multiple storylines make it the strongest season yet. They believe the season’s compelling relationships and plot threads bode well for both the already-planned season 4 and the upcoming spinoff starring Samuel L. Jackson. According to the review, the first half of the season suggests a promising future for the expanding world of Sheridan’s crime drama.

Frisco King is set to premiere some time in 2027.
