As people around the world celebrate the new year tonight, fans of Taylor Sheridan are starting 2026 with some disappointing news. Starting January 1st, two of his hit shows will no longer be available to watch on Prime Video.
Prime Video has only offered the first seasons of Landman and Mayor of Kingstown, but this has been a great benefit for Prime subscribers. It allowed them to try out the shows before committing to a Paramount+ subscription, where all seasons are available. This has been particularly useful for viewers interested in the shows, providing a convenient way to catch up on Prime Video.
Both shows have done well on Prime Video, occasionally ranking among the platform’s most popular series. However, they’ve been even more successful on Paramount+, achieving significant viewership when they first launched.
Fans of Landman and Mayor of Kingstown will need to subscribe to Paramount+ starting next year to keep watching. If you’re still on the fence, you might be able to use a free trial to check them out.
Landman and Mayor of Kingstown Leave Prime Video
Taylor Sheridan’s shows, Landman and Mayor of Kingstown, will move from Prime Video to remain with Paramount+ for the foreseeable future. However, Sheridan’s overall deal with Paramount has an end date: his work with them will conclude on January 1, 2029. While that’s still several years away, this change marks a significant development in the world of streaming television.
Landman takes place in the bustling oilfields of West Texas. Paramount+ describes it as a contemporary story about people chasing wealth in the oil industry. It’s a drama that explores the lives of both the workers and the incredibly rich individuals driving the oil boom – a boom that’s having a huge impact on our world’s climate, economy, and global power dynamics.
Sheridan developed the series Landman alongside Christian Wallace, drawing inspiration from the Boomtown podcast by Texas Monthly. The show features a star-studded cast including Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Guy Burnet, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Sam Elliott.
The series Mayor of Kingstown takes place in a small Michigan town where prisons are the main source of employment. It centers on the McClusky family, who act as intermediaries between law enforcement, criminals, inmates, prison staff, and politicians – essentially controlling everything in a town that relies entirely on the prison system and its inmates.
I’m really into the show Mayor of Kingstown, which Sheridan created alongside Hugh Dillon. The cast is incredible – you’ve got Jeremy Renner, Dianne Wiest, and Hugh Dillon, but also a ton of other amazing actors like Tobi Bamtefa, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan-Headley, Pha’rez Lass, Aidan Gillen, Kyle Chandler, Nishi Munshi, Michael Beach, Necar Zadegan, Laura Benanti, Lennie James, and Edie Falco. It’s a seriously talented group!
Starting January 1st, Landman and Mayor of Kingstown will no longer be available on Prime Video. However, you can still watch both shows on Paramount+.
