An educator at an elementary school in New Jersey is facing charges for allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior with a student who previously attended the school.
34-year-old Laura Caron was formally accused by a grand jury on June 17, with counts including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and endangering a child’s welfare due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, as per the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to a press release from June 19, an investigation led by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Major Crimes Unit of the Middle Township Police Department uncovered that from 2016 to 2020, Ms. Caron had an improper romantic involvement with a student who lived in her home. It was during this period when she worked as a fifth-grade teacher at the Middle Township Elementary School.
In 2019, it’s reported that Caron had a child who was a girl, with the claimant being only 13 years old at the time, as stated in a probable cause document acquired by People magazine.
According to the affidavit, the sister of the supposed victim (who occasionally stayed at Caron’s house with parental approval) shared with investigators that her sibling asserted he was the father of Caron’s child.
In 2016, it’s stated that the individual believed to be the victim began residing with Caron permanently, but the details behind this change remain uncertain, as suggested by the statement.

In a statement issued by their office, Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland expressed deep concern about these accusations, especially since the defendant was in a position of confidence with the victim. The prosecutor’s office is steadfast in its duty to safeguard our community’s most vulnerable residents and will relentlessly pursue investigations and prosecutions against those who betray that trust.
In the event of being found guilty on all counts, Caron potentially faces imprisonment for as long as 40 years. At this point, she hasn’t made an official plea, and her next court date is set for July 16, as per records we’ve examined at TopMob News.
TopMob News has reached out to Caron’s attorney for comment but has not yet heard back.
