It’s common for superhero teams in comics to get new members after a major storyline, and the Teen Titans are no exception following the ‘DC K.O.’ event. Interestingly, the newly formed New Titans will include a well-known villain on their team, DC Comics recently announced.
DC recently announced a new lineup for the Titans comic as part of its DC All-In initiative. The current monthly Titans comic will be renamed New Titans with issue #33, launching in March. Writer Tate Brombal and artist Sami Basri will be taking over the creative duties, and a new team roster is hinted at in the cover art by Taurin Clarke.
The cover art features the Titans Tower and the main team members—Nightwing, Raven, Beast Boy, Starfire, Cyborg, and Donna Troy. Four mysterious, shadowy figures are also present, offering clues about who the next generation of Titans might be.
The first figure looks like Conner Kent, also known as Superboy, based on his haircut and the S-shield on his costume. Next to him is likely Cassandra Sandsmark, Wonder Girl, identified by the lasso at her hip. The figure in the cloak, carrying a staff and with a purple Bat symbol, seems to be Stephanie Brown, currently Batgirl and formerly known as Spoiler. That leaves one final figure – standing on a floating rock – who many Teen Titans fans will probably recognize immediately.
What Teen Titans enemy is joining the team?
Okay, so it looks like Terra is going to be the big bad! I remember her from the old Teen Titans comics – she first showed up way back in 1982. What was so shocking about her was that she was secretly working against the Titans for Deathstroke the whole time! It was a huge storyline called ‘The Judas Contract,’ and it ended tragically. She seemingly died trying to bury the heroes under a collapsing base, but it was an accident – she ended up taking herself down with it back in 1984. It was a really impactful moment in the comics!
A backstory change in the 2016 Deathstroke comics showed that Slade Wilson assisted Terra in faking her death. She recently reappeared with the new Crime Syndicate, but was quickly taken into custody. In Titans #29, Raven revived Terra to help the team battle Darkseid’s forces. Terra appears to be continuing to help her old friends, the Teen Titans, though it’s unclear if she’s doing so willingly or if she’s being forced to participate, and whether she’s genuinely trying to make amends for her past actions.
