We were surprised by the recent update. When Bandai Namco announced a patch for Tekken 8 in mid-April, most players expected only small changes, as it wasn’t advertised as a major update.
The latest update, patch 3.00.02, is actually quite significant. It includes major adjustments to character balance, and addresses many previously overpowered moves.
The initial response to the update has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly considering recent feedback from the Tekken community. It seems players feel the developers have at last addressed some of the most problematic design decisions that were first implemented in Season 2.
This update doesn’t change the fact that Tekken 8 still favors aggressive players, but it’s a step towards addressing that style. For the first time in a while, some of the game’s most annoying characters have actually been adjusted in a significant way.
To help Tekken 8 succeed, this needs to be the beginning of a larger effort to win back dedicated players. The strong criticism of Season 3 couldn’t be ignored, so it’s great to see Bandai Namco making significant changes.
We believe Tekken 8 is getting closer to its full potential with this new patch, though it still needs some adjustments. The Heat system is generally too strong, and combos are often too long, but this update offers a promising step in the right direction.
You can read through the full patch notes on the official Tekken website.
