Teyana Taylor’s Oscars Dress Included Hidden Nod to Her 2 Daughters

Teyana Taylor has been serving one look after another throughout award season.

At the 2026 Oscars on March 15th, the actress from One Battle After Another wore a memorable outfit that included a touching tribute to her daughters, 10-year-old Iman “Junie” Shumpert and 5-year-old Rue Rose Shumpert, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Iman Shumpert.

Okay, so you will NOT believe this. I was zooming in on the photos of the Chanel gown – the black one, so gorgeous, with all the sheer parts and those incredible feathers – and I nearly screamed! Hidden in the embroidery, like a secret just for them, were Junie and Rue’s names! Written in beautiful cursive, and with a tiny heart right next to it. It’s the sweetest, most amazing detail ever, and I’m officially deceased. Seriously, how perfect is that?!

Even though Rue and Junie stayed home that evening, Junie had been the center of attention when she accompanied her mom, Teyana, on the red carpet at the Actor Awards. During an interview with TopMob News at the event on March 1, Teyana playfully referred to Rue as her “very expensive stylist.”

The little girl clearly enjoyed spending time with her mother, who was a nominee at the Academy Awards.

“I’m truly honored to be here,” Rue told TopMob News. “I want to thank everyone – especially my mom – for making this such a wonderful day. And I have to say, all of your outfits look fantastic!”

Teyana’s charming outfit was a tribute to the women she admires, a sweet gesture that followed her lighthearted mention of them while accepting an award at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

Fighting back tears while accepting her award, Teyana told her children, who were watching from upstairs, to put down their phones and pay attention to the moment.

They absolutely were, and Teyana fondly remembered how warmly they welcomed her right after her performance.

Teyana shared with TopMob News that seeing her family after receiving her award was incredibly sweet. They were waiting for her in a small lobby area just off the main space, as they had a suite nearby. She described the moment they met in the lobby as heartwarming, saying she immediately ran into their arms.

Naturally, her girls also wanted to prove their mom wrong.

She continued, saying it was a really nice moment. As soon as she saw her daughter afterwards, her daughter pointed out, “See, Mommy, we weren’t looking at our phones!”
