That Time Ewan McGregor Walked Around Disneyland On Star Wars Day And Nobody Recognized Him

Many people enjoy visiting theme parks like Disneyland. While some celebrities are huge Disney fans, others simply like going occasionally, just like everyone else. Celebrities often rely on VIP services to avoid being overwhelmed by fans. However, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor didn’t need any special treatment when he visited Disneyland on Star Wars Day – surprisingly, no one recognized him!

In a post shared to Instragram by The Zach Sang Show, McGregor’s wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead reveals that the couple once went to Disneyland together and that the Obi-Wan Kenobi actor took no precautions to avoid being recognized beyond wearing a hat. But somehow, he made it through a day at the park without anybody realizing it was him.

As a big Star Wars fan, I’ve been following the events at Disneyland for years, and they regularly host these amazing after-hours ‘Star Wars Nite’ parties – they always sell out! I think that’s probably what Winstead was talking about. But Disneyland also does something bigger called ‘Season of the Force,’ which is a months-long celebration with special Star Wars-themed food, ride makeovers, and all sorts of fun experiences.

Even on a typical day at Disneyland, people would likely recognize Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a couple. However, as Winstead explains, the timing of their visit was unusual because many people were dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and some actually walked past McGregor without realizing it was him!

For any dedicated Star Wars enthusiast, meeting this couple would be a real treat. Ewan McGregor famously played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel movies and the recent Disney+ series. Mary Elizabeth Winstead brought the beloved character Hera Syndulla to life in the first season of Disney+’s Ahsoka, and is expected to reprise the role in Season 2, which is slated to premiere next year with a Disney+ subscription.

Disney+ offers a wide range of Star Wars movies and shows, making it a must-have for fans. You can subscribe starting at $11.99 per month with ads, or choose an ad-free plan for $18.99 monthly. For even bigger savings, consider an annual subscription at $189.99 – that’s 16% off! View the deal to sign up.

As Winstead rightly notes, people don’t expect to encounter celebrities while waiting in line for rides like Hyperspace Mountain. Even if you did spot a famous person at Disneyland without their VIP guide, you probably wouldn’t recognize them and wouldn’t pay them much attention.

I write about theme parks and Hollywood, so I always watch the VIP tour guides – we call them ‘plaids’ – to see which celebrities they’re with. It’s only a matter of time before I spot big Disney fans like Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Gad, or John Stamos. I’d love to see Gad and Stamos together, maybe even performing on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride!

Now that I’ve learned Ewan McGregor can visit Disneyland unnoticed, it’s obvious Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge needs an Obi-Wan Kenobi character! If they can add Luke Skywalker to the land, they could easily add Obi-Wan too. It would be great if McGregor could even appear at the park when the character is introduced, since he wouldn’t be swarmed by fans.
