While many people keep up with fashion trends, others simply focus on their everyday clothes. But every now and then, a celebrity wears something so striking it captures everyone’s attention. This happened at the 2000 Grammy Awards when actress Jennifer Lopez debuted a now-iconic, barely-there green Versace dress. Recently, that same dress reappeared – worn by the original model who first showcased it.
Who Just Wore JLo’s Iconic Green Dress?
For almost three decades, Jennifer Lopez has been a major global star. Starting as a dancer on In Living Color, she’s become a well-known singer and actress, appearing in films like Selena, Hustlers, and the critically acclaimed Kiss of the Spider Woman. She recently released a song reflecting on the end of her marriage to Ben Affleck, solidifying her status as a versatile entertainer.
Jennifer Lopez is consistently a style icon, known for pulling off any look – from casual denim and sweaters with boots, to elegant floral dresses. She’s especially famous for a stunning, sheer, jungle-print Versace gown – so much so that her stylist initially discouraged her from wearing it! Now, Amber Valletta, the model who originally wore that iconic dress on the runway, has revived the look on the red carpet. Check it out!

Valletta looks amazing (as models tend to), and it makes sense that she would feel a sense of ownership, of sorts, when it comes to this designer gown, despite the fact that Lopez wearing it to the Grammys actually helped create Google Images. As she told Entertainment Tonight when they caught up with her on the red carpet:
I first showcased the dress on the runway, then in a photoshoot. After that, Jennifer Lopez famously wore it to the Grammys, and it instantly became a sensation. It’s amazing how a single dress can become iconic, evoke strong memories, and inspire confidence for so many people.
What’s The Origin Story Of JLo’s Green Dress And Model Amber Valletta?
It’s common for celebrities to wear outfits originally showcased by supermodels on the runway. This Versace dress, which recently drew a lot of attention thanks to Jennifer Lopez, was first worn by Amber Valletta in September 1999 as part of the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2000 collection. She went on to say:
I’m truly honored to have been involved since the start and to be able to wear this tonight. I felt ready to get back to it.
She wore it again, and it looked fantastic! Just like with Jennifer Lopez, this proves the person wearing the clothes makes the outfit, not the other way around. In fact, she might not have even liked the dress if it hadn’t been for how model Valletta presented it on the runway, so Valletta deserves recognition for her contribution to fashion!
