The 10 Strongest Street Fighter Film Characters, Ranked

The first trailer for the new movie based on the popular video game series is here, giving fans a look at the fighters who will compete in the World Warrior Tournament. While most of the characters are from Street Fighter II, the game that made the series famous and helped define fighting games, a few characters from the original Street Fighter and Street Fighter Alpha will also appear.

The World Warrior Tournament brings together the planet’s greatest martial artists, but even among them, some are more powerful than others. While the new movie hasn’t shown us everything about the characters, what we know from the games and the trailers gives us a good idea of who the strongest fighter will be.

Cammy White Received Deadly Training

Cammy White first appeared in Street Fighter II: The New Challengers as part of Delta Red, a skilled MI6 team dedicated to taking down M. Bison’s criminal organization, Shadaloo. The recent movie version of Cammy, played by Mel Jarnson, draws inspiration from her backstory in Street Fighter Alpha, where she was originally one of Bison’s brainwashed personal guards, known as the Dolls.

Cammy’s background, as shown in Alpha, explains her incredible physical abilities – she’s a genetically engineered clone of Bison. This, along with intense training from both Shadaloo and Delta Red, makes her a very dangerous fighter, known for her quick and accurate attacks. Unlike many characters in Street Fighter, Cammy doesn’t have any superpowers. And because she hasn’t yet teamed up with Delta Red in the movie, she won’t be as proficient a fighter as she is in the games.

Zangief Is a Physical Powerhouse

Zangief, also known as the Red Cyclone, is the largest and most physically powerful character in the Street Fighter movie. Actor Olivier Richters is a towering 7’2″ tall, even bigger than Zangief appears in the video games. While Zangief is portrayed as a regular human in the Street Fighter series, he consistently demonstrates amazing strength and resilience throughout the games.

I’m a huge Zangief fan, and honestly, his backstory is incredible! I first heard that he hones his skills by wrestling bears in the Siberian wilderness – can you believe that? And in Street Fighter V‘s story, he actually broke someone’s sword with just his chest, shouting that pure strength beats any weapon! He even told a story in Street Fighter VI about single-handedly pulling a submarine out of a frozen river, though that one might be a bit of an exaggeration. Look, nobody can match Zangief’s raw power, but it’s true that some other fighters have more finesse or even use special abilities to get an edge.

Dhalsim Possesses Unusual Fighting Abilities

Dhalsim, a unique character from the game Street Fighter and portrayed by Vidyut Jammwal in the film adaptation, isn’t known for brute strength or speed. Instead, he relies on extraordinary abilities to win fights. He can stretch his body like rubber, float in the air, and even teleport short distances. Plus, he uses a special technique called Yoga Fire – an illusionary flame that causes pain but doesn’t seriously injure his opponents.

Dhalsim believes his incredible abilities come from his yoga practice and worship of the Hindu god Agni. However, other characters in Street Fighter suggest these powers are actually a form of ‘ki’ – the same inner energy used by fighters like Ryu and Chun-Li. While the movie trailer showed Dhalsim stretching his limbs in battle, it’s still unknown if all of his unique powers will be featured in the film.

Guile’s Fists Can Create Shockwaves

WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes will play the character Guile in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. Guile is an American fighter who competed in the World Warrior Tournament. He met and became friends with Charlie Nash while serving in the Air Force, and Nash, a former martial arts champion, trained him. Nash taught Guile his famous Sonic Boom attack – a powerful punch delivered with incredible speed, creating a shockwave that hits the opponent.

The movie trailer showed Guile as a more realistic character compared to the video game version. While he might not have his signature Sonic Boom attack, he’s still incredibly powerful – the trailer clearly demonstrated this when he kicked Vega right through a brick wall.

Blanka Fights With Feral Strength

Blanka, played by Jason Momoa in the film, is a powerful and wild character. He was once a boy named Jimmy who amazingly survived a plane crash in the Amazon rainforest. Living alone in the jungle, he learned to mimic the abilities of the animals around him, most notably the electric eel’s power to generate electricity. Combined with his strong build, this makes him one of the most formidable fighters in the Street Fighter series.

Blanka doesn’t have many remarkable accomplishments in the games, mostly because he’s so laid-back. Though he looks like a monster, he’s really a playful and good-hearted person who doesn’t usually take fighting seriously. After finding his mother again between Street Fighter II and Street Fighter IV, his priority shifted to earning money to take care of her.

Chun-Li is the Strongest Woman in the World

Chun-Li, portrayed by Callina Liang, is a famous kung fu master who first appeared as the only female fighter in the original Street Fighter II game. Like her father, she works as both a police officer and a martial arts expert. She’s known for her incredibly fast kicks – so quick they appear as a blur, a move called the Hundred Lightning Kicks. She also demonstrates her skill by focusing her energy into a powerful blast called the Kikoken.

The Street Fighter games often call Chun-Li “the strongest woman in the world.” While that’s likely an exaggeration, considering how powerful some later female characters became, she’s definitely established herself as one of the most formidable fighters in the game’s universe.

Ken is a Martial Arts Prodigy

Based on the trailers, Noah Centineo appears to be the main star as Ken Masters in the new Street Fighter movie. In the game’s story, Ken grew up rich and his parents sent him to train with a martial arts master named Gouken. Gouken taught ansatsuken, a fighting style originally designed to be deadly, but he and his students practiced a safer, non-lethal version.

Ken is a remarkably talented martial artist, and a fast learner of both physical combat and energy-based attacks like the hadouken. He has the potential to be one of the world’s greatest fighters, but unlike many characters in the Street Fighter series, he prioritizes his family and business over constant training and fighting. He values spending time with loved ones and maintaining a normal life.

Ryu is Gouken’s Most Talented Student

In the film, Ryu—played by Andrew Koji—is the main character and was originally the hero of the Street Fighter video games. He was taken in as an orphan by Gouken and shares a strong friendship and competitive rivalry with Ken. Ryu is driven by a single purpose: to become stronger. He constantly searches for the best martial arts teachers and isn’t afraid to challenge anyone who could help him improve.

Ryu, like Ken, is skilled in the martial art of Ansatsuken. However, he also has a dangerous, inner power called the Satsui no Hado, which translates to ‘Surge of Killing Intent.’ While tapping into this power makes him stronger, it threatens to strip him of his humanity. Though trailers for the Street Fighter movie didn’t show any sign of this dark side, Ryu still defeated Ken in a spontaneous fight, even without using it.

M. Bison Can Never Truly Die

Bison is the primary villain in the Street Fighter franchise and the upcoming movie, where he’s portrayed by David Dastmalchian. He’s a powerful fighter who thrives on causing pain to others. Through a special ability called Psycho Power, Bison can fly, teleport, and create explosions. Most frighteningly, he can even transfer his consciousness into a new body if he’s defeated. In the games, heroes often have to team up to beat him, but he always manages to return.

Bison’s political influence makes him especially dangerous. As the head of Shadaloo, he has almost unlimited money and a huge number of followers who obey his every command. In the story mode of Street Fighter V, Bison built the Black Moons – seven massive weapons designed to destroy the world – which he used to spread misery and boost his own Psycho Power.

Akuma Embraces His Demonic Power

Though opinions on the strongest character may vary, Akuma, portrayed by Roman Reigns, is widely considered the most formidable fighter in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. As Gouken’s brother, Akuma stands apart from other masters of the ansatsuken fighting style because he’s willing to kill. He embraced the dark side, known as the Satusi no Hado, and became almost like a demon.

Akuma is well-known for his devastating Shun Goku Satsu attack, which rapidly strikes an opponent’s vital points, almost always resulting in immediate defeat. He famously beat Bison at the end of Street Fighter II, and even fought Oro – considered the strongest fighter in the Street Fighter series – to a standstill. Fortunately for everyone else in the Street Fighter world, Akuma is a twisted version of Ryu. While he also seeks strong opponents, he’s sacrificed his own humanity in his relentless pursuit of power.
