Season 2 of The Apothecary Diaries finished in July, and at the time, a sequel anime was only announced with a short teaser – no release date was given. However, on October 22nd, 2025, the anime celebrated its second anniversary and revealed that Season 3 will be split into two parts. The first part is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2026, likely in early October, and the second part will follow in Spring 2027, after a short break over the winter. Plus, a movie is also in the works! It will feature a brand new story written by the author of the original novels, Natsu Hyuuga, and is expected to be released in Japan in December 2026. A global release date hasn’t been announced yet. Fans are thrilled with all these upcoming releases, especially as the story continues to get more captivating.
The anime’s first two seasons cover the first four books of The Apothecary Diaries light novel series, and Season 3 will begin with book five, following Jinshi and Maomao as they investigate strange events. Recently, the official X account for the novel announced that over 45 million copies are now in circulation. While the books were already popular – having sold over 23 million copies by September 2023 – the anime adaptation significantly boosted their popularity. After 11 years, the novel series has released a total of 16 volumes as of November 2025.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Will Move Forward With Maomao and Jinshi’s Relationship

Season two shows a significant development in the growing relationship between Maomao and Jinshi, despite the obstacles they face. The season covers the events of the fourth novel volume and sets the stage for new difficulties for Maomao in the future. Following Loulan’s success in stopping the Shi Clan’s rebellion, Maomao returns to the Verdigris House and takes over her father’s role as an apothecary. Meanwhile, Jinshi begins fulfilling his duties as a member of the royal family. Throughout the season, Maomao and Jinshi gradually become closer, and Jinshi starts to openly express his feelings by the end.
With his true identity known, he’s now openly showing his feelings for her, unlike before. Maomao, however, continues to act as she always does, caring for him in her own way, and it’s still hard to know what she truly thinks. The next part of their story will take them to the Northern farming villages, where a big problem is developing. As usual, Jinshi turns to Maomao for help in finding out what’s going on. If you’re excited for what’s next, you can watch the first two seasons of the anime on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
