The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte Preview Reveals Stunning Art of the High Republic Era (Exclusive)

Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte transported viewers to the final days of the High Republic, a time when the Jedi and the Republic were at their peak. Although the Disney+ show won’t be continuing, it left a lasting impact on the Star Wars universe by expanding the timeline and introducing key elements like a live-action Darth Plagueis, the Knights of Ren, and a new Force-wielding cult. Fans can now delve deeper into this era with The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte, available from Abram books on February 3rd.

ComicBook received an exclusive first look at concept art from The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte, revealing designs for key scenes in the first episode. The art showcases the planet Ueda, including a location inspired by the iconic Mos Eisley cantina. Interestingly, early designs for the character Mae depict her wearing dark red robes, clearly signaling her connection to the Sith, which is a different look than her final appearance.

The second picture features a stunning starship above a planet. It initially seems to depict a time when Mae worked as a starship mechanic – a job later taken over by droids like R2-D2. However, considering where the two figures in space are positioned, it could also be an early sketch of a battle scene that was ultimately cut from the final story. The ship’s design is similar to those from the Naboo system, giving it a feel reminiscent of the prequel films.

These details really show the dedication put into The Acolyte. While the Star Wars show has sparked debate, it’s clear the creators are passionate about the franchise – creator Leslye Headland, for example, was a fan during the prequel years. The cantina design was a standout, cleverly echoing the iconic Mos Eisley, and the concept of Mekneks – skilled workers replaced by droids – is brilliantly original.

Star Wars art books are always a great way to see how the movies and shows are made, including interviews with the artists. Fans of The Acolyte will especially love this one, as it showcases the designs for key characters like Jecki (Dafne Keen), Osha and Mae (Amandla Stenberg), and the intriguing Sith Lord known as the Stranger (Manny Jacinto). You can pre-order it now on Amazon. Here’s a detailed description of what’s inside:
