A Game of Thrones star is set to play a character closely tied to Harvey Dent in The Batman – Part II.
The next Batman movie, following the 2022 film, has added Sebastian Stan to the cast as Harvey Dent, and Scarlett Johansson as his wife, Gilda Gold. Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman, with Colin Farrell returning as the Penguin and Andy Serkis as Alfred. Matt Reeves is directing again, and he co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin.
I just read some exciting news! Charles Dance, who was amazing as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, is reportedly in talks to be part of The Batman – Part II. Apparently, he’s being considered to play Harvey Dent’s father, Charles Dent, though it’s not official yet. Filming is set to start this spring, and we can finally mark our calendars – the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027! I’m really looking forward to seeing him in that universe.
The comic book version of Harvey Dent’s father is named Christopher Dent, not Charles. He first appeared in Batman Annual #14 in 2020 and is portrayed as a troubled man struggling with alcoholism and mental health issues, who is also abusive towards his son. While characters like Harvey Dent, the Penguin, and Alfred have been featured in previous Batman films and series, The Batman – Part II would mark the first time Christopher Dent appears on screen. However, he did previously appear as a voiced character in the 2024 video game Batman: Arkham Shadow, with Andrew Morgado providing the voice.
Although the details of The Batman – Part II‘s story are still secret, the casting of Andy Serkis suggests the Dent family will play a major role. With reports indicating Serkis and Bill Skarsgård are playing members of the Dent family, the older Dent character is likely to be a powerful and potentially dangerous figure – either as a main villain himself, or through actions that ultimately lead to Harvey Dent becoming the villain Two-Face.
Considering how Tywin Lannister treats his children, particularly Tyrion, in Game of Thrones, Charles Dance naturally embodies the role of a domineering, controlling father, drawing on the impact of his most famous character. He recently revisited this theme playing the abusive Leopold Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, where his character’s actions deeply traumatize Victor (Oscar Isaac) and fuel his dangerous pursuit of overcoming death.
