DC fans finally received some exciting news about The Batman Part II this week, after a long wait and few updates. Reports indicate Scarlett Johansson, known for her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Jurassic World, is being considered to join the cast. While fans are thrilled with this major development, it appears a key actor from the first The Batman film won’t be returning for the sequel.
Sources say Zoe Kravitz likely won’t reprise her role as Catwoman in The Batman Part II, according to Variety. The publication doesn’t offer further details, but also reports that any information about Scarlett Johansson’s possible role in the Robert Pattinson film is being kept under wraps. Rumors suggest she could play a character who starts as a love interest for Batman but eventually becomes an enemy.
Catwoman Not Returning Shouldn’t Necessarily Be a Surprise

It’s a shame Zoë Kravitz won’t be returning as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman Part II, especially since her character was a highlight of the first film. However, it wasn’t entirely unexpected. The ending of The Batman showed Selina leaving Gotham after discovering Carmine Falcone was her father, feeling the city was beyond redemption. While the movie gave her a compelling origin story as Catwoman and sent her off to find her own way, it also felt like a complete arc for that journey. Bringing her back so soon wouldn’t allow enough time for her to fully develop into Catwoman after leaving to forge her own path.
It could actually be beneficial for Batman’s story if another character fills a role similar to Selina Kyle, as suggested in the second film. Rumors indicate Johansson might play a character who begins as a love interest but eventually becomes an enemy of Batman, leading many to speculate she could be Andrea Beaumont, also known as The Phantasm. If this is true, it could create a strong foundation for Selina’s return in a potential third film, allowing her to interact with a more developed Batman and recreate the complex romantic and antagonistic relationship that comic book fans have loved for years. Currently, both Selina and Batman were still evolving at the end of the first film, leaving plenty of room for character growth.
