There’s a new rumor circulating that Sebastian Stan won’t be playing Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II. Despite months of speculation, very little is known about the plot of Matt Reeves’ upcoming sequel. While reports have linked Stan to the role for some time, this new information casts doubt on those claims.
So, Jeff Sneider dropped some interesting news in his latest newsletter! Apparently, things aren’t quite what we thought with the new cast members for The Batman: Part II. I was hearing rumors about who everyone would be playing, but it sounds like those were way off. Instead of the character many assumed, Ben Stanfield is reportedly going to play Victor Zsasz – a seriously creepy serial killer from the comics. Think Jigsaw from Saw, but maybe even more unsettling. And get this: Brian Tyree Henry isn’t necessarily playing Two-Face as we expected! He’ll be Harvey Dent, the District Attorney, but it’s not confirmed if he’ll actually become Two-Face in the movie. It’s a cool twist, and definitely makes me even more hyped to see what director Matt Reeves has planned.
Sneider’s sources wouldn’t reveal details about the roles of Johansson and Dance, but one source clarified they aren’t major characters from the Batman comics – instead, they’re combinations of more obscure figures. Sneider also confirmed the appearance of the Court of Owls, a powerful and corrupt group of Gotham’s wealthiest citizens who’ve secretly controlled the city for years.
Who is Victor Zsasz and Why Would Matt Reeves Use This Villain?

Victor Zsasz is widely considered one of Batman’s most unsettling villains and is responsible for a massive number of murders in Gotham City. He marks each kill with a cut on his body, covering himself in a chilling record of his crimes. First appearing during the major “Knightfall” storyline – which nearly defeated Batman – Zsasz stands out from other Batman enemies because of his straightforward evil. He doesn’t rely on elaborate costumes or tricks to be intimidating; simply removing his shirt is enough to show how dangerous he is.
Stan hasn’t said much about rumors suggesting he’ll play Harvey Dent, only mentioning that his part involves extensive makeup – something that could apply to either Two-Face or another villain like Victor Zsasz. This fits with reports that director Matt Reeves is aiming for a fresh take on villains in his realistic and gritty Gotham setting. Stan also seems well-suited for this type of role, as evidenced by his impressive performance in the film Fresh.
The ending of The Batman sets the stage for a serial killer like Victor Zsasz to thrive. The massive flooding in Gotham would create chaos and leave many people vulnerable – exactly who Zsasz targets. He could commit numerous crimes before anyone noticed, giving police a real challenge. Introducing Zsasz also opens up exciting storytelling possibilities for director Matt Reeves, letting Batman truly embody his role as the world’s greatest detective, similar to Sherlock Holmes investigating Jack the Ripper. While just speculation right now, it’s a very compelling idea.
Sneider thinks the characters played by Dance and Johansson are central to the movie’s story, which is why people are hesitant to share details about them. He wonders if Dance might be a key figure in the Court of Owls, and Johansson his daughter – a character who has a relationship with Bruce Wayne and could potentially lead the organization. He admits this is just a guess, and we’ll have to wait for more information to know for sure.
