Seth MacFarlane’s New Animated Series Drops New Details

Seth MacFarlane has clearly become a major player in animation. With popular shows like Family Guy and American Dad already renewed for multiple seasons, he’s expanding his universe – including a spin-off focusing on the character Stewie. In an unexpected move, MacFarlane is also bringing one of his live-action movies, Ted, to animated form, with details recently revealed by an executive producer about what fans can expect from the new series.

Paul Corrigan, the executive producer of the Ted animated show, recently explained what made the original movie and TV series so successful. He said the franchise, despite its often crude and mature content, has a lot of heart, and the new show will continue to explore themes of family and friendship – specifically, what it means to be a good dad, spouse, or friend. They also plan to expand the Ted universe, as is typical with television adaptations.

The Science of Ted

The interview also touched on how long Ted could potentially live, given his magical background – seemingly for centuries, or even millennia. Corrigan explained they considered the ‘rules’ of Ted’s existence, and briefly discussed a storyline where Ted lost an eye and went on a quest to find it, still being able to see through it. While this idea didn’t make it into the current series, Corrigan hopes to revisit it, potentially in the upcoming animated show.

Fans hoping for another season of the live-action Ted series are unfortunately out of luck. Seth MacFarlane recently stated there are no current plans for a season three, primarily because it’s very expensive to create the realistic, talking teddy bear. An animated series is in the works as a more cost-effective alternative, but details and a release date haven’t been announced yet.

Seth MacFarlane has built a hugely successful animation studio, most notably with shows like Family Guy and American Dad!. Both series have already been renewed by Fox through 2029 as part of their Animation Domination block. Considering The Simpsons is also planned to continue until its fortieth season around the same time, it will be fascinating to see if MacFarlane’s shows—either the Griffin family or Ted—outlast Springfield’s iconic residents.
