The world of The Big Bang Theory is growing! HBO Max has released a first look at a new spinoff series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Although the original show ended in 2019, the franchise remains popular on CBS with shows like Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. However, unlike those shows which explored the past, this new series will be the first to take place after the events of The Big Bang Theory.
In Stuart Saves the Universe, we follow Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), the comic book shop owner, as he accidentally triggers a multiversal crisis. He broke a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, and now it’s up to him to fix reality! The new show brings back familiar faces from The Big Bang Theory, like Bert Kibbler (Brian Posehn), Denise (Lauren Lapkus), and Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), to help (or maybe hinder) his efforts. The first trailer shows a humorous look at the sci-fi chaos – you can watch it below.
Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Breaks New Ground For The Big Bang Theory Franchise
Like other shows connected to The Big Bang Theory, Stuart Saves the Universe comes from creators Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn (known for his science fiction work), and features some familiar faces. However, it also feels fresh and distinct from the other spin-offs.
This new show really shakes things up for the franchise. It introduces science fiction elements and opens up the possibility of a multiverse, challenging everything we thought we knew about the series’ reality. This allows for more creative freedom and exploration of new ideas. Plus, it’s the first show set after The Big Bang Theory (excluding future appearances of characters from Young Sheldon), the first to move away from focusing on at least one member of the Cooper family, and the first to premiere on HBO Max instead of CBS.
The show’s approach is promising because it brings back beloved characters while also feeling new and avoiding simply repeating what’s been done before. While the previous shows were successful, this fresh mix will help Stuart Fails to Save the Universe establish its own identity. The trailer effectively showcases this balance of familiar elements and new ideas, which is key to attracting both longtime fans and new viewers. It seems they’re striking the right balance – even if Stuart doesn’t save the universe, the show appears poised to successfully continue the spirit of The Big Bang Theory.
