A medieval-influenced open-world action RPG by Rebel Wolves, a team comprised of ex-CD Projekt RED members, isn’t groundbreaking. But with their new game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, they’re venturing into unique territory. It’s not just about combat; it’s a deeply personal story following Coen, who finds himself torn between human and vampire identities, as he races against time to save his family within a month.
In a flexible fashion, there’s no set time limit per se, and it’s essential for players to keep track of Coen’s hunger levels, especially during nighttime expeditions. Simultaneously, the reputation system comes into play. As Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director, shared with IGN, defeating Brencis’ forces might present challenges but could also unexpectedly offer advantages to the player.
As your influence grows in the valley and you continue to act against Brencis, don’t expect him to remain idle. He will take measures to hinder your advancement. These actions might include increasing military presence on the streets, stepping up patrols along roads, or imposing a curfew. Consequently, it’s becoming harder to forage at night.
Your actions in the game will make you known amongst other Non-Player Characters (NPCs) beyond just Brencis and his soldiers. This newfound reputation could prove beneficial when interacting with certain factions, as it may instill fear or respect among them. In some quest scenarios, this notoriety could potentially work to your advantage since there are factions that are opposed to Brencis, who might appreciate your efforts against him. Thus, gaining notoriety is a strategic move towards improving relations with these groups.
The choice is left to the player whether they delve into the entirety of Dawnwalker or head straight for Brencis. This flexibility is part of what makes the game intriguing, and the reputation of the development team adds an extra layer of allure.
In 2026, the game titled “The Blood of Dawnwalker” will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. For a more in-depth look at the gameplay, click here.
