Season 5 will be the last for the Amazon series The Boys. Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and his team are preparing for a final showdown with Homelander (Antony Starr), the incredibly powerful superhero who has seized control of the US government and established dominance for those with superpowers. Though Butcher doesn’t have much time left, the team gained some powerful new allies through the Gen V spin-off, giving them a real chance to finally defeat Homelander.
As a longtime fan of The Boys, I’m starting to get seriously worried about Season 5. The show is known for not being afraid to kill off major characters, and now one of the biggest stars is suggesting their character might be next. It’s got a lot of us wondering just how high the stakes will go and what kind of emotional toll this season will take. Will a beloved character really be sacrificed? It’s definitely a chilling thought.
The Boys Star Hints At Their Characters’ Death In Season 5 (Spoilers?)

Karl Urban’s performance as Billy Butcher is a major reason why The Boys became so popular. He’s become famous for his energetic and often outrageous lines, which fans quickly turned into memes. Recently, Urban spoke with Screen Rant at FAN EXPO and turned the tables, asking them about Season 5. He emphasized one thing he wants fans to know: the final season will be intense and full of high-stakes drama from the very beginning.
Urban said they’re immediately putting characters in extremely difficult situations, but it’s intended to raise the emotional stakes right away. He warned viewers that significant, impactful events will happen very early in Season 5 – even in the first episode – making it clear that the season will be much more intense and serious than before.
In short, the showrunner hinted that no character is safe in the final season – even himself. He emphasized that the stakes are incredibly high, and anyone could potentially die.
Ever since taking the V24 drug for superpowers in Season 3, Billy Butcher has been facing a limited lifespan. Many viewers were surprised he survived Season 4, making Season 5 a natural point to conclude his story.
Despite Karl Urban’s strong presence, Billy Butcher isn’t the central character of The Boys. The show initially focused on Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), a young man whose girlfriend was tragically killed by the superhero A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). The series needs to ultimately resolve Hughie’s journey as he’s drawn into a world of corrupt and unethical superheroes, guided by the determined, and often ruthless, Billy Butcher.
Hughie needs a chance to grow and become his own person, perhaps even developing some of Butcher’s toughness, after starting the series as a naive character. However, with the unpredictable nature of showrunner Eric Kripke, anything could happen – even Hughie’s death and Butcher finishing the story. As Karl Urban hinted, Season 5 of The Boys will be full of surprises and no character is guaranteed to survive.
