As a huge fan of The Boys, I’m starting to think about how it might end, and honestly, if it sticks to the comics, it could be incredibly bleak. The show is definitely not afraid to go to dark places – it’s cynical, shocking, and constantly shows us the terrible consequences of superheroes existing in the real world. But what’s interesting is that it’s not really a depressing show, even with all that darkness. It’s a dark comedy, which means even when things are at their worst, there’s usually something to make you laugh. It’s a really unique balance!
As The Boys TV series nears its end, things might get significantly darker. The original comic books take a very bleak turn, and while the show hasn’t always followed the comics closely, a similarly depressing conclusion seems likely. Fans should brace themselves for a potentially upsetting finale. (Warning: This contains spoilers for the The Boys comic books.)
Basically Every Member Of The Boys Dies In The Comics

I’ve been following The Boys since day one, and it’s been amazing watching our heroes – the actual ‘Boys’ team – take on the supes. It’s tough seeing characters we like bite the dust, but thankfully, none of the core team members have met their end… yet. But if the show follows the comic book storyline, things are about to get seriously dark. Butcher starts pushing for a full-on genocide of supes, and it completely splits the team apart. It doesn’t just create tension, either – it leads to some truly shocking and fatal consequences.
The rest of the Boys realize Butcher has gone too far and needs to be stopped, but Butcher desperately tries to keep his plan going by eliminating them. He starts by killing people connected to the team, including Legend, Love Sausage, and MM’s former wife. When confronted, Butcher kills Mother’s Milk. He then uses an explosion to kill Frenchie and Kimiko, preventing them from interfering with his goals.
By the end of The Boys, three major characters have died, leaving only Hughie and Butcher. Their final confrontation takes place on the Empire State Building, culminating in Butcher’s death after he falls and breaks his neck. Even after his fall, Butcher continues to harass Hughie, who ultimately kills him with a metal spike. While Hughie and Starlight survive, the deaths of MM, Frenchie, Kimiko, and Butcher aren’t caused by superpowered individuals, but by conflicts amongst themselves.
The comic book version of The Boys features several deaths, including one that’s surprisingly less tragic: Homelander’s. It’s revealed that Black Noir is actually a clone of Homelander, and in a fight, Noir defeats and kills him. While it’s satisfying to see Homelander gone, it’s disappointing that it wasn’t The Boys who ultimately took him down, meaning they didn’t achieve their original mission.
Will The Boys TV Show Be Less Depressing Than The Comics (Or Will It Be More)?

When The Boys TV series ends, it’s likely to be less bleak than the original comic books. Although Butcher is still flawed, the show has made him a more sympathetic character. It seems unlikely he’d go as far as killing his teammates—Frenchie, Kimiko, and MM—and there probably isn’t enough time left in the series for that to happen.
It’s increasingly probable that Homelander will be defeated by The Boys. While Black Noir was initially presented as older than Homelander, the recent actor change suggests he might have been replaced, possibly with a Homelander clone created by Sister Sage. However, this plotline feels somewhat predictable, especially since the show already explored a similar concept with Soldier Boy being revealed as Homelander’s father, so it might not be necessary.
The TV show The Boys might actually have a better conclusion than the original comic book series. But it’s also possible the show could take an even more grim turn. We don’t really know what the showrunners have planned for the finale. Events like Ryan’s death, the spread of the supe virus, or Stan Edgar taking back control of Vought could make the ending even more devastating than the comics. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
