Microsoft is likely to invest in OpenAI again, reportedly exploring a deal worth less than $10 billion, according to The Information.
Microsoft is planning to invest as part of a larger funding round, which could also see NVIDIA contribute up to $20 billion and Amazon invest $10 billion or more.
OpenAI, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Amazon haven’t confirmed any of this information. Reuters has contacted them for comment, but they haven’t responded yet.
Details of the agreement aren’t fully public, even when considering terms like “up to” and “less than.” According to a report by The Information, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Amazon are discussing potential investments in OpenAI that could reach $60 billion.
According to a Financial Times report, OpenAI is discussing a potential $40 billion investment from companies including NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft.
Until OpenAI or those involved confirm the details, we should be cautious about recent reports. It looks like they may be getting a significant investment, but we don’t have all the facts yet.
Microsoft was one of the first companies to work with OpenAI and has made significant investments in the artificial intelligence company. They strengthened their relationship in October 2025, and at that time, their investment in OpenAI was worth around $135 billion.
Microsoft explained that its investment gives it approximately 27% ownership of the company, factoring in all existing shares and owners.
NVIDIA previously invested in OpenAI, committing up to $100 billion last September. OpenAI’s models rely on NVIDIA’s chips, and the two companies are expanding their collaboration. OpenAI will use NVIDIA’s systems – requiring at least 10 gigawatts of power – to train and operate its future models.
Amazon is reportedly considering investing in OpenAI. According to Reuters, this investment could be linked to a deal where OpenAI uses Amazon’s cloud computing services.
According to The Information, Amazon’s potential investment in OpenAI might depend on OpenAI being willing to sell its products – like ChatGPT subscriptions for businesses – to Amazon.
OpenAI is predicted to lose around $14 billion in 2026, mainly because it’s expensive to run its AI services. To help lessen these losses, OpenAI recently started showing ads within ChatGPT.
