As a big Final Fantasy fan, I’ve noticed Square Enix really shifting gears after Final Fantasy 16’s sales weren’t quite what they hoped for as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. They’re now pushing hard to release games on multiple platforms – it’s a big change in strategy!
Funny, because as far as we can see, it still covets exclusivity where it suits.
The release of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD, a remastered Nintendo DS game, felt strange considering Nintendo had previously presented it as a game only for their older 3DS system. We initially dismissed it as an unusual choice for a new console launch.
The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, but it doesn’t currently have a version for PlayStation 5.
This is a sequel to Panoramasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, a popular game released earlier this year for Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
The game’s inclusion of Play Anywhere suggests a possible partnership with Microsoft, as this feature is usually found in games developed or published by them.
We expect a version of this game for the PlayStation 5 to be released in the future. It will likely be much more successful on the PS5 than on Xbox.
But right now, PlayStation fans find themselves snubbed yet again.
To be honest, we’re tired of Square Enix talking about how they release games on multiple platforms. We don’t need to hear about it anymore.
