Tonight, The Fortune Hotel made a thrilling comeback on ITV2, as one team was eliminated within a quarter of an hour, even before they visited the Lady Luck bar.
Once again hosted by Stephen Mangan, the returning series featured a fresh batch of travelers embarking on a trip to paradise, eagerly pursuing a suitcase containing a quarter of a million pounds.
However, only one pair might find themselves in such a situation, while the rest cling fiercely to empty suitcases, striving diligently to prevent receiving an early eviction notice.
Tonight marked the climax of things as the intensity increased during the initial exchange of briefcases in this season. All competitors gathered at the Lady Luck bar, where Fred and Min were the first to trade their cases.
In a turn of events, they opted for an exchange with Nella and Tope, and later, without realizing it, they took the early checkout pass. Earlier in the show, the outcome had already been decided by Jake and Mike when they secured the cash hold.

Following numerous exchanges and briefcase switches among the participants, the scene concluded in a suspenseful manner, with Tope hesitating to decide which partner’s briefcase he should exchange with Nella’s, keeping viewers on tenterhooks.
Even though he kept a close eye on everything happening throughout the day, the initial exchange of the briefcases didn’t turn out as Stephen Mangan had anticipated.
In an interview prior to the show’s premiere, Mangan stated that as the series progresses, these shows tend to become increasingly dramatic due to the decreasing number of contestants. He also suggested that the first episode should have some level of drama to set the stage.
“We were not expecting that much drama in the first Lady Luck bar.”
In my opinion, following the intricate dance of the briefcases this season was nothing short of mind-boggling. The strategic acumen displayed by the Season 2 cast significantly outshines that of their predecessors, making every episode a suspenseful and captivating watch.
In the initial round, none of the competitors had previously watched the show. Since there was no show to watch, these contestants have all seen the first series and appear to employ a strategy of throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. They started aggressively right from the start.
It seems to me that if you witness a couple departing without securing a room first, it underscores the necessity of acting quickly. If there’s a potential reward of £10,000 at stake, it’s crucial to seize the opportunity immediately.
Mangan kept commending the initial episode, pointing out that the showrunners couldn’t have hoped for a more promising start to season 2. It wasn’t only because it was exciting, but also because “it carries an emotional impact and it’s amusing.”
He expressed his appreciation for the show by saying, “What I enjoy most about this series isn’t only the dramatic elements. There’s certainly a lot of drama, but what makes it stand out is that they’re all quite humorous individuals as well.
The Fortune Hotel begins on Wednesday 6th August at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
