Fans are eager to know many things about the next Mass Effect game (Mass Effect 5), like when it will come out and on what systems. They also want to know if it will be a better game than Dragon Age: The Veilguard. But the biggest question of all is whether Commander Shepard will return. If Shepard does come back, will they be the main character again? While it’s not simple to bring the character back, one possibility might involve the Geth. Once enemies of Shepard, the Geth developed a strong connection with them, and some fans even consider Shepard a legendary figure to the Geth.
Here’s some early information about the next Mass Effect game. The story will continue after the original trilogy, and we know this because characters like Liara T’Soni and the Reapers appear in promotional materials. This confirms the game takes place in the Milky Way galaxy. The Geth are also heavily featured in the game’s marketing – in fact, they’ve been shown more than any other alien race so far.
How the Geth Could Bring Back Commander Shepard
In Mass Effect 2, the organization Cerberus brings Commander Shepard back to life. Now, the Geth might be on the verge of doing the same, which makes sense considering their reverence for Shepard and their incredibly advanced technology and intelligence. In some endings – potentially the official one – the Geth don’t just become allies, they achieve full sentience.
Early marketing reveals the return of Liara T’Soni, a key ally of Commander Shepard. However, it’s unclear why she’s involved, given her apparent lack of connection to the Geth – their only shared link seems to be Shepard herself.
If you’ve played Mass Effect 3, you’ll remember the Geth share a consciousness within a massive digital world. In the game, Commander Shepard directly connects to this world, essentially allowing a digital copy of his mind to be created. This means the Geth have a blueprint of Shepard’s personality and memories – they just need to put it into a new body.
A fascinating theory is gaining traction among the Mass Effect community, thanks in part to YouTuber and Mass Effect expert Mr Hulthen. You can find a more in-depth explanation of the theory in the video linked below.
However, there’s a potential setback. Jennifer Hale, who voiced the female Commander Shepard, recently stated that BioWare hasn’t reached out to her about returning for a new project. While this doesn’t necessarily rule out Commander Shepard’s return altogether – there could be reasons why she wouldn’t be involved – it’s still something to keep in mind.
