is offering a chance to watch one of the all-time great films at no cost, featuring a genuine icon of the silver screen at the peak of their powers. Almost sixty years after its initial release, Sergio Leone’s is once again a top 10 free streaming title, currently ranked at number 8. For anyone needing proof that not every film *needs* a remake-especially when compared to movies created before the age of AI actors-this classic provides the perfect example.
If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of seeing the location in Sad Hill Cemetery, let me tell you the story behind what many consider one of the most copied and important westerns ever made. It goes like this:
Amidst the turmoil of the Civil War, a quiet wanderer called “the Good” (Clint Eastwood), a chatty and unreliable outlaw known as “the Ugly” (Eli Wallach), and a ruthless gunslinger labeled “the Bad” (Lee Van Cleef) hunt for a hidden treasure of Confederate gold. Loyalties change, betrayals mount, and it all leads to one of the most iconic three-person standoffs in film history. The tension is palpable and the stakes are high.
Even if you aren’t familiar with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, you’ve likely heard Ennio Morricone’s iconic score-that distinctive “wah-wah-wah” sound-somewhere. However, the original version in the film itself is still the most impactful. This movie is the thrilling conclusion to a series that started with A Fistful of Dollars and continued with For a Few Dollars More, and it’s a must-see at least once. Now is the perfect time to experience it!
‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’ Is a Sweeping Cinematic Masterpiece
United Artists
Sergio Leone is practically the defining name in Western films, and for good reason. Few filmmakers have captured the spirit of outlaws, cowboys, and the Old West as effectively as he did. Although Clint Eastwood has also directed many excellent Westerns, he often played the role of student to Leone’s masterful direction.
I’m a huge fan of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and it’s amazing how well it still holds up! It has a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and general audiences – pretty much everyone agrees it’s the greatest Western ever made. I know a lot of people complain about long movies these days, but Sergio Leone’s masterpiece proves they’ve *always* been a test of endurance – it runs for 161 minutes! And even though some people point out the film has a deliberate, unhurried pace, I’ve never found it to be boring for a single second.
If you’re interested in seeing how classic Westerns were made before Taylor Sheridan influenced the genre years later, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is the perfect – and really, the only – film to watch. Plus, it’s currently available to stream for free on Tubi, so there’s no reason not to check it out.
