The Hollow Knight Inspiration Is Blatant in Promising PS5 Metroidvania Karma Exorcist

Karma Exorcist is a promising new Metroidvania game currently in development by the studio Cyclos, and early looks are very positive.

This game draws inspiration from Chinese mythology, taking you on a journey through the afterlife. A disruption in the balance of karma is causing widespread chaos – it’s a pretty serious situation, actually.

After watching the reveal trailer, it’s clear this game shares many similarities with Hollow Knight.

Both games are clearly 2D side-scrollers in the Metroidvania style, but what really stands out is how smooth and impactful the combat feels – every attack has a really satisfying sound and weight to it. They even share a similar look, including the way characters react when they’re hit.

Everything seems to be running smoothly and reacting quickly. According to the developers at Cyclos, the game is nearing the end of its development, so we might find out when it will be released soon.

I’m so excited to share that Karma Exorcist has a playtest up on Steam right now! Just a heads-up from the developer, though – it’s still a work in progress, so expect a few bugs here and there. But honestly, I’m happy to jump in and get a first look!
