Now that the movie The Housemaid is out in cinemas, the director, Paul Feig, and lead actress Sydney Sweeney are already discussing the possibility of making a second film.
In the thriller The Housemaid, Sweeney plays Millie, a woman recently released from prison after serving a decade. She takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for the seemingly perfect Winchester family – Nina, her daughter Cece, and husband Andrew. But as Millie settles in, she discovers things aren’t as idyllic as they appear and finds herself in a dangerous predicament.
So, I just saw this movie, and it’s actually based on a book – the first in a trilogy by Freida McFadden. Honestly, I was shocked by how well it was received! Critics seem to really like it, and apparently, Feige and Sweeney are already talking about making a sequel, which is awesome news!
Director John Feig recently told TODAY that the story of Millie, from The Housemaid, isn’t finished. He said, “Millie is not done,” and also shared his hope to adapt the remaining two books in the series. The second book, The Housemaid’s Secret, focuses on Millie’s new job with a different family, while the third, The Housemaid is Watching, shows Millie working as a social worker.
In an interview with TODAY, Sweeney hinted at possibilities for a sequel, suggesting the film’s ending provides clues about where a future story could go. She also believes the movie clearly shows what Millie’s next steps will be, giving viewers “a taste of where Millie goes and what’s going on.” Sweeney expressed hope that Seyfried’s character, Nina, would return, feeling that Millie really needs Nina’s presence in her life.
I’m already hooked on The Housemaid! It just came out a couple of days ago, but everyone – both critics and regular viewers like me – is loving it. It’s still early to say how well it’ll do overall, but the amazing reviews are making me hopeful we might even get a sequel!
