The King of Queens: Kevin James’ Underrated Sitcom Still Delivers Laughs

Kevin James is well-known for his roles in Adam Sandler’s movies, but he first gained popularity starring in the early 2000s sitcom, The King of Queens. Even though the show ended in 2007, it’s still just as hilarious today. James has actually built a really successful career for himself, both with Sandler and on his own.

James is known for two main parts of his career. For two decades, he was a regular in almost every Adam Sandler movie, including films like 50 First Dates and Hubie Halloween. He also starred in the sitcom King of Queens, which doesn’t get as much attention now, but is still a really great show.

The King Of Queens Is A Hilarious, Overlooked Sitcom

Okay, so The King of Queens is one of those shows I always come back to. It first hit CBS in September of ’98 and ran for a solid nine seasons, wrapping up in 2007. It stars Kevin James as Doug Heffernan and Leah Remini as his wife, Carrie. The setup is great – they’re a normal, middle-class couple living in Rego Park, Queens, but they have Carrie’s really quirky, widowed dad, Arthur (played by the hilarious Jerry Stiller), living with them too. It’s a classic sitcom situation!

Doug’s a delivery driver who always speaks his mind. He’s constantly hatching plans to get what he wants – whether it’s a better job or just a quick bite to eat – but those plans usually end in comical failure.

Around the same time as popular sitcoms like Two and a Half Men, According to Jim, and Reba, The King of Queens premiered. Despite a lot of competition, it stood out because it focused on a middle-aged, childless couple who were responsible for taking care of the husband’s father.

The King of Queens was special because it could tell a variety of stories and include humor that appealed to adults while still being suitable for younger audiences. Over time, the show has faded from prominence, especially as James Caan has pursued different acting roles. Despite this, it remains just as hilarious today as it was when it originally aired.

Everybody Loves Raymond And The King Of Queens Are In The Same Universe

It’s surprising to learn that The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond exist in the same television universe. Kevin James actually began his appearances on Everybody Loves Raymond in season one as a guest star, playing a friend of Ray Romano’s character. By season three, his character was replaced by Doug Heffernan, who then became a main character on The King of Queens.

James is playing a character very similar to the one he famously portrayed in The King of Queens. Since Ray Barone and his family lived in the suburbs of Long Island, it naturally fits that his character would deliver to Ray’s house and become friends with him. The Barone family actually makes guest appearances in a few episodes of The King of Queens, creating a fun and familiar link between the two shows.
