The King of the Hill Revival Needs to Bring Back The Show’s Greatest Villain

In the TV show “King of the Hill“, battles to save the world or superhero-style adventures are not the main focus as it delves more into everyday life. However, conflicts or “villains” were still present, with Hank’s father, Cotton, often serving as a significant antagonist. The series said goodbye to this “villain” in an episode aptly named “Death Picks Cotton.” As for the upcoming fourteenth season, many familiar faces have reappeared to generate excitement for Arlen, Texas’ comeback. Yet, there is one specific character we eagerly anticipate returning due to their particularly annoying nature.

Jimmy Wichard was undeniably a character on The King of the Hill who could be perceived as a formidable antagonist towards the Hank family. With an attitude reminiscent of a schoolyard bully, Wichard often left a destructive impact on various show characters whenever they crossed paths. One of his most alarming actions occurred during the second season episode “Life in The Fast Lane, Bobby’s Saga”, where he came close to causing harm to Bobby. In this instance, Hank was forced to take extreme measures due to his rage, dashing across a racetrack and avoiding cars as he went, before physically attacking Jimmy repeatedly for nearly putting Bobby in danger due to Wichard’s recklessness.

Where Did We Last See Jimmy?

The final episode with Jimmy Wichard on King of the Hill was during its original ending season, season thirteen. In that particular episode, Bill is grappling with loneliness once more and considers getting a roommate as a solution. From a group of potential candidates, Wichard emerged as a strong possibility to move in with Bill. Unfortunately for Bill, Jimmy’s character and his eagerness to become the sole owner of Bill’s house led him to be evicted, and he didn’t appear again in the series.

It’s been a while since we last caught up with the Hill family, and if you remember Bobby, he’s all grown up now. Given the significant transformations we’ve witnessed so far, it’s safe to assume that Jimmy Wichard would experience some major changes too. From what we know of Jimmy in the first 13 seasons, a change of heart seems unlikely for him. It would be intriguing to see how he fares without the Hill family in Arlen.

Initially, the character Jimmy Wichard was portrayed by actor David Herman. Notably, Herman also played LuAnne’s ex-boyfriend Buckley, Dale’s father Bug, and even the late president Jimmy Carter. Given that one of Herman’s characters might reappear, it seems that he has been accustomed to taking on multiple voice acting roles.

A Villain’s Comeback

We don’t have to wait much longer to find out if Jimmy returns in the 14th season of “King of the Hill,” which debuts on Hulu on August 4th. If he does, it seems that the changing times and the characters aging could pose significant challenges, particularly for Hank and Peggy who are now retired. The promotional materials suggest that their retirement may not be as fulfilling as they had imagined after their trip to Saudi Arabia.

Regarding Bobby, Hank’s son, it’s fortunate for him that his new restaurant boss doesn’t seem to be like his old boss at the racetrack, where as a child, he was subjected to some questionable ethical situations. Since then, Bobby appears to have found his passion, which aligns with the series finale that showcased a heartwarming moment between Hank and Bobby sharing their shared love for grilling. As an adult, it will be intriguing to observe how their relationship has evolved since then.
