As a huge fan, I really believe Game of Thrones totally revolutionized television. It proved that big, complex fantasy shows could actually work, and it paved the way for others to try similar things that might have seemed too risky before. I’ve seen a lot of shows trying to fill the void it left, but honestly, nothing has come close. And I don’t think anything should just try to be another Game of Thrones; whatever comes next needs to be something completely its own.

While Game of Thrones was known for its impressive visuals and compelling characters, it really stood out because of its complex political storylines and unexpected twists that kept fans guessing. Several other fantasy shows share these qualities, but one in particular has the potential to be the greatest fantasy TV series ever made – if it can ever get off the ground.

If the books in Patrick Rothfuss’ The Kingkiller Chronicle were made into a TV series, it would be a strong candidate to take over from Game of Thrones. Like Game of Thrones, it features a sprawling world, a complex and flawed main character, significant deaths, and a magic system rooted in logical principles. However, it would still offer a fresh and original story.

The Kingkiller Chronicle has the potential to become a hugely popular show. Because the main character is a musician, the music would be a key part of the series. The visual effects would also need to be top-notch, comparable to those in Game of Thrones, as the story moves between realistic, rundown locations and a magical, otherworldly realm. While many fantasy shows focus on action, The Kingkiller Chronicle offers both large-scale battles and intense, close-quarters fights.

A frustrating aspect of Game of Thrones was its lack of diversity, especially considering it portrayed characters from numerous distinct cultures. In contrast, The Kingkiller Chronicle builds a world with diverse locations, customs, and philosophies, and specifically describes its characters as coming from various ethnic backgrounds.
