HBO’s The Last of Us TV series is mirroring the path of the original PlayStation games. The first season was a hit with both critics and fans, just like the first game. However, the second season sparked debate and upset some viewers with unexpected character deaths and a change in storyline. It’s likely the third season will also draw criticism, and recent casting announcements reveal two characters who will play key roles in the upcoming story.
Season 3 of The Last of Us will move away from Ellie’s story and instead focus on Abby’s perspective, showing what she was doing during the events of Season 2. Two key characters from Abby’s storyline have now been cast for the HBO series: Kyriana Kratter will play Lev, and Michelle Mao will play Yara, according to Deadline.
The Last of Us Season 3 Confirms Its Lev and Yara

I’ve always been fascinated by Lev and Yara in The Last of Us Part II. They’re such compelling characters, especially considering they’re part of the Seraphites, who are enemies with Abby’s group, the WLF. Despite that, they end up teaming up with Abby – it’s a really interesting alliance built on just trying to survive. Their story feels a lot like Joel and Ellie’s, and it’s so exciting to know we’ll see a direct conflict between them and Bella Ramsey’s character!
Lev’s story stands out in The Last of Us because he’s a transgender boy who defies the expectations of his community’s elders. He wants to be a warrior, which leads to him being exiled. HBO specifically looked for a transgender actor to play Lev, and Ian Alexander Kratter ultimately got the role. Fans have been anticipating the casting for the show’s third season – which might be the last – and now the news is out.
Michelle Mao recently played the role of Rosamund, the stepsister, in the fourth season of Bridgerton, and Kyriana Kratter is well-known for her part as “KB” in the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Both actors will appear alongside Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in most of The Last of Us Season 3. They join new cast members including Clea DuVall as another seraphite, Jason Ritter as WLF soldier Haley, Patrick Wilson as Abby’s father Jerry, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr., who is taking over the role of Manny due to Danny Ramirez’s departure.
