As a huge fan of The Last of Us, I was really surprised by the latest casting news for Season 3! The show has been spot-on with its choices so far – Pedro Pascal is Joel, and Bella Ramsey really grew into Ellie. But it sounds like Season 3 is going to shake things up by focusing the story on Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. That’s a big move, mirroring what happened in the second game, and it’s going to be intense. We’re going to be seeing everything from Abby’s perspective, including the fallout from… well, you know. It’s going to be a challenging watch, but I’m really intrigued to see how they pull it off and show us a different side of the story.
The cast of the upcoming adaptation now includes Lev (played by Kyriana Kratter) and Yara (Michelle Mao), who are part of the Seraphites, a religious group based in Seattle. Unlike the game where their mother is only seen as a corpse, actress Li Jun Li (known for her role in Sinners) has been cast to play her, representing a departure from the source material.
Sinners Star Tabbed for Surprising Role in Last of Us Season 3

Li Jun Li recently gained recognition for her role in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which makes her casting in The Last of Us Season 3 somewhat surprising. In Sinners, she played a key character who bravely fought back after a personal tragedy, establishing her as a rising star. Now, she’s joining The Last of Us as a character who only appeared as a dead body in the original game. It seems unlikely she’d take on a role with so little screen time after such a strong debut.
In season three of the HBO adaptation, Li Jun Li joins the cast as Miriam, the mother of Lev and Yara. Like her children in the game, Miriam is a member of the Seraphites, a group known for their violence and conflict with the Washington Liberation Front over control of Seattle. This season will show how Lev and Yara encounter Ellie as she pursues revenge in Seattle following Joel’s death. Eventually, these kids will clash with Abby, but also develop a connection with her.
It’s currently unknown how significant Li Jun Li’s character will be in Season 3 of The Last of Us. While she won’t just be a background character, she’ll likely appear in flashbacks showing the story of Lev and Yara. She might be the one who teaches her children about the Seraphite Prophet, or, potentially, she could even be the Prophet herself – though that’s just a theory at this point.
Jet Li is the latest actor joining the cast of The Last of Us for its third season. He’ll be working alongside Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson, who are new to the show. Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord, who previously had smaller roles, have been promoted to main cast members. Clea DuVall will also appear as a new Seraphite, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. is taking over the role of Manny from Danny Ramirez.
