The Last of Us season 3 is embracing even more elements from the games.
I’m so excited about what’s coming in The Last of Us Season 3! It looks like they’re filming a really intense action sequence with Abby and Lev right now. From what I understand, the season will be based on the latter half of The Last of Us Part II, showing us everything Abby was up to before she met Ellie. We’ll finally get to see her story with the Washington Liberation Front and learn more about the bigger conflict happening in Seattle while Ellie was seeking revenge. It’s going to be amazing to get her side of things!
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) have shared photos from the set of The Last of Us season 3, hinting at a major action scene featuring Abby and Lev. The photos and a video show Kaitlyn Dever (as Abby) and Kyriana Kratter (as Lev) walking through the ruined streets of Seattle. They appear to be gearing up to enter a building, with Abby carrying a rifle and Lev equipped with a bow and arrow.

The second season of The Last of Us concluded by hinting at the events of season 3. In the finale, Abby unexpectedly attacks and kills Jesse, then takes Tommy hostage. As Ellie pleads for Tommy’s life, a gunshot is heard, and the scene shifts to the beginning of Ellie’s arrival in Seattle, but this time shown from Abby’s point of view. Following the storyline of the video game, season 3 will explore the conflict between the WLF and the Seraphites in more detail, providing a better understanding of the war.
The hit show The Last of Us is adding new characters for its third season. Lev, a transgender teenage boy and a member of the Seraphites, will join the cast alongside his sister, Yara, played by Michelle Mao. Both characters will work with Abby, and early photos suggest this storyline will be based on a section of the original game. Season 3 will likely delve into the war-torn city of Seattle and how the conflict has impacted Abby and changed her views.
Filming for Season 3 started in British Columbia in March 2026 and is scheduled to finish in November. This season will significantly shift focus, diving into Abby’s story after previous seasons centered on Joel and Ellie (Season 1) and Ellie’s journey for revenge (Season 2). The video game The Last of Us Part II received mixed reactions due to its portrayal of Joel’s killer, and this impacted the show, with the Season 2 finale seeing a 55% drop in viewers compared to the Season 1 finale.
Despite any changes, photos from the set suggest that The Last of Us season 3 will stay true to the original game. It looks like the show will cover Abby’s storyline, including her journey with Lev, and adapt it as fans expect. This part of the story is important, and the series seems committed to telling it faithfully on television.
