It’s amazing how popular Avatar: The Last Airbender has stayed since it finished airing on Nickelodeon in 2008. Following the sequel series, The Legend of Korra, and with a new show, Avatar: Seven Havens, on the way, the original characters are returning this year. The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is scheduled to premiere in October, and while we haven’t seen any previews of Aang and his friends as adults, a recent leak has given us a first look at them, along with a brand new character.
New photos from the upcoming live-action Avatar movie have been released through Target’s promotional materials. These first looks reveal what the grown-up versions of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko will look like years after the original series ended. One photo also features a previously unseen character. Not much is known about him yet, but he shares the same airbending tattoos as Aang, suggesting he’s also an airbender. You can view the images below.

The Controversy of Aang: The Last Airbender

Originally, The Legend of Aang movie was planned for release in theaters, but those plans changed, disappointing many fans. Last year, Paramount announced the movie would instead premiere directly on their streaming service, Paramount+, on October 9th. Both fans and the filmmakers are now working to ensure the movie is a success despite this change in release strategy.
This week, Lauren Montgomery, the director of The Legend of Aang, expressed her enthusiasm for the film and shared her wish for it to have a theatrical release. She admitted she might be biased, but believes the movie is fantastic and deserves to be seen on the big screen!
The new live-action movie based on Avatar: The Last Airbender will feature a fresh cast, with Eric Nam as Aang, Dionne Quan as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, Roman Zaragoza as Sokka, and Steven Yeun as Zuko. Several well-known actors, including Dave Bautista, Ke Huy Quan, and Taika Waititi, have also joined the project in currently undisclosed roles. Both the filmmakers and fans are hoping the movie stays true to the original story when it’s released this fall.
