The Longest-Running Anime Crime Drama Is Finally Coming to the U.S. After Almost 30 Years

Back in ’94, I found myself captivated by the groundbreaking manga, “Case Closed” (or “Detective Conan”) penned by the brilliant Gosho Aoyama. This masterpiece debuted and was later adapted into an anime by TMS Entertainment in ’96. With over 270 million copies in circulation, it ranks as one of the top four best-selling mangas ever! The story revolves around me, a 17-year-old high school student and detective extraordinaire named Shinichi Kudo. I was investigating some fishy business at an amusement park when I got ambushed by two shady characters who forced me to swallow the mysterious APTX 4869 serum, turning my adult body into that of a 7-year-old child! Quite a twist, isn’t it? This rollercoaster ride of mystery and adventure is one I can’t get enough of!

In the face of this significant transformation, Shinichi finds himself compelled to conceal his true identity while probing the enigmatic group responsible for his miniaturization. Assuming the pseudonym Conan Edogawa, he establishes a new residence with his old friend Ran Mouri and her detective father, Kogoro Mouri. Given that he can no longer openly tackle cases, Conan frequently employs Kogoro’s voice to give the impression that the detective has solved them independently. Over the course of more than three decades, Detective Conan has produced 107 volumes, over 1,150 episodes in the anime series, and 28 films. In celebration of its upcoming 30th anniversary, TMS Entertainment’s official website has unveiled the release dates for a unique collection of episodes that have never been broadcast in the U.S. These specially chosen episodes and selected films will be accessible on Crunchyroll and Netflix, with their initial rollout scheduled for July 3rd, 2025.

Detective Conan Netflix and Crunchyroll U.S. Release Date

The popular anime series will start streaming simultaneously on Crunchyroll and Netflix from July 3rd, offering both subtitled and dubbed versions. The “Conan vs. The Black Organization” storyline will debut first, giving us a glimpse of the main antagonist group. Furthermore, additional releases are scheduled alongside these episodes, such as the U.S. premiere of the “Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine” movie at Anime Expo on July 5th. Directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, this film was released in Japan in April 2023 and achieved box office success.

Year after year, taking place in California, Anime Expo stands out as one of the most significant anime and manga gatherings that has been going strong for over three decades. This event delights fans worldwide by showcasing Japanese pop culture, hosting discussions, conducting workshops, among other activities. The main event will unfold in the JW Diamond panel room, offering participants an opportunity to join a trivia contest and potentially walk away with unique Conan prizes.

Furthermore, over three successive Saturdays, TMS Entertainment’s official YouTube channel plans to unveil three movies. Here is the schedule with their respective dates and titles.

  • July 12th – Movie 20 Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare
  • July 19th – Movie 22 Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer
  • July 26th – Movie 5 Detective Conan: Countdown to Heaven
