It’s been seven years since the last Star Wars trilogy concluded, and since then, several spin-off TV series have been released. The most popular of these is The Mandalorian, which features a surprisingly successful duo: the Mandalorian himself and the character known as Baby Yoda (Grogu). Now, their adventures are coming to the big screen with a new film, and expectations are high.
The Mandalorian and Grogu mission…..
The new season kicks off with an exciting action scene, finding The Mandalorian working with the New Republic. He’s given missions by Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) to track down remaining Imperial forces throughout the galaxy. To help with this, Ward makes a deal with the Hutt clan (since Jabba is gone): they’ll help locate and rescue a kidnapped Hutt cousin, and in return, the Hutts will reveal the identity of a powerful Imperial warlord (who bears a resemblance to the late gangster Dave Courtney). With Grogu at his side, the Mandalorian embarks on a mission filled with explosive action and unexpected twists to find and return the Hutt cousin.
What to expect….
Jon Favreau directed this film, co-writing the script with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. While it feels reminiscent of a Western and expands on the story from the related TV series, it’s designed as a full-scale cinematic experience, especially impressive in IMAX. Newcomers to the series will find it easy to follow, and there’s plenty to enjoy, including nods to the original trilogy. Unlike the earlier prequels which relied heavily on CGI, this film blends practical effects, stop motion, and CGI (though the CGI isn’t always perfect) for a more visually pleasing result. Some traditionalists might point out the clear intention to create new merchandise with the introduction of several new characters geared towards younger viewers.
Is the Force strong with this one?
The film is full of exciting action – explosions, gunfire, and intense sequences – and it’s all woven into a compelling story. It’s a welcome return to the series’ best elements, delivering a truly invigorating experience.
