An actor recently revealed they were offered the role of Rotta the Hutt in this year’s The Mandalorian & Grogu. The show is bringing Din Djarin and Grogu to the big screen after becoming popular on streaming services. For those familiar with the Star Wars universe, Rotta is Jabba the Hutt’s son and was first seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
During an interview with Deadline‘s ‘The Actor’s Side’, The Bear star spoke about fulfilling a childhood dream by joining the Star Wars universe. He confirmed he’s been a longtime fan, saying, “I’ve always loved Star Wars.” According to reports, he was approached about The Mandalorian by co-creator Jon Favreau at an event.
It all started with Jon Favreau, whose work I’ve always admired. I was thrilled when we met at a party and he approached me about a project. He mentioned it involved Star Wars, asking if I’d be interested, and I immediately said yes – I’m a big fan of the films! It ended up being just a few days of recording my voice in a studio.
Jeremy Allen White Is In More of ‘The Mandalorian’ Movie Than Fans Realize

In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, White discussed how he joined the Star Wars universe. He initially thought the role would be relaxed. As he explained, Jon Favreau told him he’d be voicing Jabba the Hutt’s son, requiring only a half-day of recording without any scans or physical performance capture.
I immediately said yes. However, they hadn’t started filming yet, so I was mostly just reviewing the material and preparing. I recall calling him the night before to ask if there was anything specific I should watch or focus on to get ready. He simply said, ‘Just come in and do your thing.’
A year later, after filming had begun, they asked me to do some additional work on the movie. It became clear they had expanded the role, and I ended up being involved much more than I initially expected.
Pedro Pascal, star of The Mandalorian & Grogu, was amazed by what Jon Favreau accomplished with the spin-off movie. He told IMDb that the movie’s sets were even more impressive than those from the already visually stunning TV series. Pascal frequently found himself asking Favreau how he managed to create such incredible environments. He considers Favreau a genius and jokingly refers to him as his “Jedi Master,” praising his skill in world-building, character development – both for returning and new characters – and casting choices. Pascal believes the sets perfectly reflect Favreau’s overall vision.
