The Marvel Cinematic Universe has shifted significantly since Avengers: Endgame, and the difference between good guys and bad guys isn’t as clear anymore. This is especially true with the new team introduced in the Thunderbolts movie. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) has essentially taken a group of dangerous criminals – assassins and thieves – and presented them as a new, government-backed version of the Avengers.
Valentina is expanding her team by recruiting what many consider to be the world’s most skilled assassin, giving them the same benefits as members of the New Avengers. However, it’s questionable how long she can control such a dangerous individual, and whether this villain is even capable of being a team player.
Bullseye Joins Valentina’s Ranks

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again concluded with significant changes for its main characters. Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), lost his position as mayor and was forced to leave New York City. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) publicly revealed himself as Daredevil, leading to his arrest for acting as a vigilante. At the same time, Dex Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) was praised for helping to take down Kingpin and protecting the governor, and was then recruited by Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard) for an unspecified overseas assignment. In a separate scene, it was revealed that Bullseye was hired to replace Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who returned to Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and their daughter appearing emotionally drained from a task assigned by Charles.
Is Bullseye A New Avenger Now?

It’s still unclear exactly what Valentina is planning with her new take on the Avengers, or her attempt to create new superheroes like the Sentry. However, as a seasoned CIA operative, she’s likely managing multiple secret operations at once, using people like Mr. Charles to expand her reach. While Luke Cage and Bullseye could potentially join Yelena Belova and John Walker’s new team, the events in Daredevil: Born Again suggest they’re more likely being used for covert, off-the-record missions – like assassinations – that Valentina wants to keep hidden.
Wilson Bethel, who plays Bullseye, hinted that his character was recruited by Valentina and Charles to work as a government-funded assassin, similar to his role in the Marvel comics.
Bethel explained to Collider that it’s reasonable to believe Bullseye has worked with the government before, as the comics often depict him doing so in questionable roles. Ultimately, Bullseye is frequently portrayed as a mercenary who works for whoever pays him, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a government was the one funding his services.

Like many storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now, it’s unclear how Valentina and Charles’s covert operations with troubled heroes and villains fit into the bigger picture. We don’t know how it connects to the New Avengers, Captain America (Sam Wilson), the original Avengers team he’s working with, the organization policing superpowered individuals (Damage Control), or any of the other global events happening in the MCU. However, most fans suspect that Valentina has recruited Dex for the time being, but controlling him won’t be easy. Bullseye is known for going rogue, and that rarely ends well for those who employ him.
Bethel believes everything hinges on the specifics of any agreement Dex makes. He emphasized how much autonomy Dex has to be himself, stating that’s the core issue. Bethel hopes Dex won’t be controlled by Valentina like he was by Wilson and Vanessa Fisk, and that any deals he makes now are from a place of strength, giving him more control over his own destiny.
