Marvel Studios is launching a new series on Disney+ in March, continuing to grow its universe of characters and stories. With Disney+, Marvel has been able to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond movies and into television, and starting in 2025, the streaming service will introduce even more superheroes with exciting possibilities. Last year, fans were thrilled to see Charlie Cox reprise his role as Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again, bringing back the style of storytelling that originally appeared on Netflix.
This month, Marvel is expanding its shared universe by bringing back Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. This will officially introduce her character into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new season is a milestone for Marvel Studios, as it’s the first project to include characters originally from the Netflix Defenders series.
Daredevil and Jessica Jones essentially kicked off Netflix’s ‘Defenders’ series, with their first seasons both debuting in 2015 and leading to a total of 13 seasons across all the shows. While those two series each ran for three seasons, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, the other members of the Defenders, had slightly shorter runs with just two seasons each. Now, it makes sense that Daredevil and Jessica Jones are the first heroes from those Netflix shows to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and hopefully this will lead to a successful new chapter for the Defenders under Marvel Studios.
Many fans consider the relationship between Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones to be a highlight of the Defenders series. Jessica, a sharp-tongued and often cynical private investigator, is quite different from the determined and moral Matt Murdock. Despite their contrasting personalities, they developed a strong friendship and shared some of the most memorable scenes in the show.

Even though she appeared only for a moment in the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, Jessica Jones’s line to Matt – “I hope you can walk, because I’m not carrying you” – suggests their popular playful relationship will be a key part of the new season. Ritter has said their connection will continue as it was in the previous Netflix series, explaining that Matt and Jessica “complement each other… but she definitely has her own opinions and loves to tease him.”
The Daredevil: Born Again series has already featured characters from the old Netflix shows, like Jon Bernthal as the Punisher (who is now appearing in a different Marvel project). However, the timing was especially right to bring Jessica Jones back into the mix.
In the first season finale of Daredevil: Born Again, Wilson Fisk declared martial law to crack down on vigilantes, immediately making all heroes in Hell’s Kitchen, including Jessica, targets. Now, as Matt Murdock assembles a team to fight Fisk in Season 2, it’s a natural chance for Daredevil to reconnect with allies from his past.
The team-up between these characters will happen by episode 6 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, but it’s still unclear exactly how many episodes Jessica Ritter will appear in.
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again will bring back familiar faces like Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, alongside Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal. The new season starts streaming on Disney+ on March 24th.
What to Expect From Jessica Jones and Daredevil’s Team-Up

Fans have eagerly anticipated seeing Jessica Jones and Daredevil team up, and early details indicate their partnership will be well worth the wait.
Marvel’s Sana Amanat shared an intriguing detail about Jessica Jones’ return in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series: she’ll reappear in Matt Murdock’s life due to “personal reasons,” and is still pursuing her own goals. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has also hinted that when viewers see Jessica again, she’ll be starting a new phase in her life, leading to speculation that Marvel might be adapting a key storyline from the comics – one that could involve a marriage with Luke Cage.
The fact that Jessica Jones will have her own goals and storyline in Daredevil: Born Again is generating a lot of buzz, as it suggests a possible return to her own series. Marvel TV’s head has even hinted that a new Jessica Jones show for the MCU is on the way, and it might happen “sooner than you think.”
Jessica Jones’s return could inspire Daredevil to become a leader once more. He previously filled that role with the Defenders on Netflix, and reconnecting with her might encourage him to move away from working alone and embrace teamwork. This is especially important now that Daredevil is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where opportunities for superhero collaborations are plentiful.
