Although the Punisher was a major character in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, he won’t be back for season 2. Surprisingly, instead of teaming up with Daredevil against the Kingpin, Frank Castle is now working with Spider-Man and will appear in his own Disney+ series.
I was really worried when I heard Frank Castle wouldn’t be in the new season. His dynamic with Matt was such a highlight of both Daredevil and Born Again! It wasn’t just action, but this fascinating clash of beliefs. Matt, with his faith and belief in second chances, fundamentally disagrees with Frank’s ‘eye for an eye’ approach. Matt truly believes no one is beyond redemption, and killing just isn’t the answer. Frank, though, feels like taking out the bad guys is the only way to keep everyone safe. That tension, that constant debate, was so compelling, and I feared the show would lose a really important layer without it. It felt like a crucial part of what made Born Again so thought-provoking.
Karen Page Is Filling The Punisher’s Role In Born Again Season 2

Surprisingly, Karen Page has stepped into the role previously held by the Punisher. Karen has been a part of the Daredevil story from the start, as one of Matt Murdock’s closest friends and even a romantic interest. During the Netflix series, she worked as a journalist, and her investigative skills were a valuable asset to the team. Though she wasn’t as strictly against killing as Matt – demonstrated by her shooting of Wesley – Karen’s views used to be much more in line with Matt’s than with Frank Castle’s.
Things are very different in the second season of Born Again. In episode 6, Matt arrives at their hideout with the wounded Bullseye, only to be met by Karen. Throughout the episode, Karen desperately pleads with Matt to allow her to kill Bullseye, and Matt even has to physically stop her with a billy club. Karen argues that villains like Bullseye and Fisk will keep harming others unless Matt takes their lives, and that believing they can be redeemed isn’t always enough. Mayor Fisk’s actions have deeply affected Karen, creating a larger rift between her and Matt than ever before.
Karen now shares Frank’s belief in finding lasting solutions, which is why Matt strongly opposes it. The conflict between Matt and Karen in season two demonstrates that the storyline could have continued even without Frank. Now, with Karen adopting Frank’s pessimistic outlook, it’s becoming even harder for Matt to stick to his rule against killing, especially with Mayor Fisk in power.
Karen’s Born Again Role Reignites Chances Of Her Relationship With Frank

Fans of the Netflix shows featuring The Defenders often hoped Karen Page and Frank Castle would become a couple. Although their connection was never officially confirmed as romantic, there was definitely a spark between them. They often worked together and seemed to have a better, more supportive relationship with each other than Frank had with Matt.
Season 2 of Born Again disappointed fans hoping for a romance between Karen and Frank by establishing a relationship between Karen and Matt. Throughout the season, they share kisses and declare their love for each other, suggesting Karen has moved on from Frank. With Frank absent from season 2, a relationship seemed unlikely, but Karen’s changed outlook leaves the door open for a possible connection in the future.
Matt and Karen have very different viewpoints, and this is likely to create problems in their relationship, particularly after Matt injured Karen. Their disagreements might lead Karen to break up with him, and if she wants a partner who shares her values, Frank seems like a good match. While Karen might try to moderate Frank’s violent tendencies, she also recognizes his ability to eliminate threats, and she might turn to him to finally defeat Fisk.
The main problem is figuring out when Karen and Frank will appear together again. It looks unlikely Karen will be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and The Punisher: One Last Kill is just a one-time special, so it probably won’t have time for this storyline. That means it could be a while before we see Karen and Frank working together on screen again.
