Another week, another depressingly concerning development in the MindsEye saga.
It’s been almost a year since the game first came out, and it wasn’t well-received. Unfortunately, we’re still hearing negative updates about it.
Workers at game developer Build A Rocket Boy, who are represented by a union, are suing the company. They claim Build A Rocket Boy broke the rules around protecting their personal data and privacy.
Build A Rocket Boy apparently used surveillance software, called ‘Teramind,’ on the devices used by its developers while making the game. The name ‘Teramind’ itself suggests a concerning level of monitoring.
Management wouldn’t explain what the software was monitoring, which understandably worried employees. It wasn’t removed until March, and only after 40 developers formally protested by filing a complaint.
However, it seems the core issue remains: Build A Rocket Boy hasn’t revealed what Teramind was actually for, and even their own employees are still unsure what data it was collecting.
According to Game Developer, a confidential conversation between studio leaders Mark Gerhard and Leslie Benzies became public. This revealed that Teramind software was secretly installed on company computers to monitor employees – it tracked their typing, recorded what they saw on screen, and even captured audio through their microphones.
This isn’t the first time the company has faced accusations of poor treatment. A report last October detailed claims of “longstanding disrespect” shown to employees by management.
And get this – after all that, management started claiming MindsEye failed because someone inside the company deliberately messed things up! Honestly, it’s always something with these guys, right? It just never ends.
Build A Rocket Boy still plans to address the issues with MindsEye, though we haven’t heard much about their progress recently.
It’s shocking to see stories like this continue to surface. Let’s avoid engaging with potentially harmful comments – please don’t respond to them.
