The MonsterVerse started with the surprising success of the 2014 Godzilla film, which showed that audiences wanted realistic but exciting monster movies. On TV, Legendary is expanding the story with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a drama that follows the secret organization tracking giant monsters – Titans – over many years. The series focuses on the human investigators dealing with these ancient creatures, adding emotional depth to a world of massive destruction.
Apple TV has released the official trailer for Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The new season will follow Cate and Kentaro Randa as they uncover more about their family’s history, and the trailer finally shows Kong in live-action! Godzilla will also be appearing, connecting the show more closely to the Godzilla vs. Kong movies.
The new trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 features footage from Skull Island and introduces several incredible new creatures. It shows the survivors are now facing a much more dangerous environment than the destroyed city of San Francisco. One of these new threats is Titan X, a massive and powerful creature emerging from the ocean.
The MonsterVerse Shows No Signs of Slowing Down
The second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters shows just how strong the MonsterVerse franchise is right now. Legendary’s series of monster movies has steadily become bigger and more successful, and the recent box office hit Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire proves it. The film earned over $572 million worldwide, making it the most successful movie in the series so far. This success has turned the MonsterVerse into a major entertainment brand that now reaches audiences across many different platforms, not just in theaters.
The popular franchise has expanded into many different forms of entertainment, like the Skull Island animated series, numerous comic books, and mobile games. The first season of Monarch was a big hit, so Apple TV is creating a spin-off set during the Cold War. This new show will focus on a younger version of Lee Shaw (played by Wyatt Russell) and will tell the story of a dangerous 1984 mission. In it, an American agent has to stop the Soviet Union from turning a powerful new Titan into a weapon.
The second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will start streaming on Apple TV on February 27th. Then, on March 26, 2027, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will be released in movie theaters.
