The Most Banned Anime in America is Planning a Special Release

Recently, several manga series have been removed from school libraries across the United States. However, even when banned for students, these stories are still available to the public. Despite this, Crunchyroll is releasing a new edition celebrating one of the most frequently banned anime series, *Assassination Classroom*. Though the original manga and anime concluded in 2016, the adventures of Koro-sensei and his students are continuing to reach new audiences.

Crunchyroll will release a special limited-edition Blu-ray set next year containing both seasons of *Assassination Classroom* and the accompanying movie. The set arrives on January 13, 2026, and includes all episodes from seasons one and two, plus the film *Assassination Classroom the Movie: 365 Days’ Time*. It will also come with three exclusive character art cards. This is the first time the complete series will be available in this format in the US.

I learned the box set includes some great extras! They’ve got interviews with the English dub cast, and you can even listen to them talk over episodes – Joel McDonald, Monica Rial, Lindsay Seidel, Sonny Strait, and J. Michael Tatum are all involved. There’s a fun video called “The Many Faces of Koro Sensei” featuring Sonny Strait, plus an extra episode called “Meeting Time,” and a commentary track for the movie itself. It sounds like there’s plenty to enjoy beyond the main series!

Assassination Classroom: The Banning And The Future

You might be surprised to learn that *Assassination Classroom* has been banned from U.S. schools over fifty times in recent years, with many school districts deciding to remove it. While the exact reasons aren’t always clear, the series’ central theme—students attempting to kill their teacher—likely plays a role. *Assassination Classroom* isn’t alone; other popular manga like *Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure*, and *One Piece* have also faced bans in some school districts.

Despite the recent restrictions, more *Assassination Classroom* content is on the way! A new movie, *Assassination Classroom The Movie: Everyone’s Time*, is scheduled for release in 2026, and will feature an original story with Koro-sensei and his students. While it’s currently unknown if the film will be available in North America, it’s likely to eventually be released in Western countries. Although a new anime series hasn’t been confirmed, a sequel isn’t out of the question for this popular, yet sometimes controversial, series.
