The late 2000s and 2010s were a significant time for horror films, with many of the biggest hits from those years becoming the foundations for popular franchises we still see today. However, one film stands out as consistently scarier than the others, and it continues to be discussed by horror fans even though it didn’t start its own franchise.
Scott Derrickson’s 2012 horror film, *Sinister*, truly terrified audiences when it was first released, and it still holds up today. With Halloween approaching, Tubi is offering horror fans a chance to experience-or revisit-this incredibly unsettling movie about a writer who uncovers terrifying secrets within old home videos.
This month, the horror film *Sinister* became available to stream on Tubi, so anyone can watch it for free. If you’re looking for a truly frightening movie this Halloween season, *Sinister* is a top contender.
Sinister Is Still As Scary As Ever
In the horror film *Sinister*, Ethan Hawke plays a writer who relocates his family hoping to overcome a creative slump. He quickly discovers a disturbing collection of old film reels in the attic, showing the horrifying deaths of the house’s previous occupants. These videos are so frightening that they easily place *Sinister* among the scariest movies ever made.
The disturbing effects of the film aren’t limited to the screen; they begin to seep into the real life of Ethan Hawke’s family. The sinister force shown in the movie escapes into his world, putting his loved ones in danger and continuing a terrifying pattern from the past.
Sinister is a truly frightening movie best viewed with company, and definitely not when it’s dark. Be warned-some of the scenes are deeply disturbing and will likely stay with you long after the credits roll.
