While many classic games are getting remade or remastered, some favorites from the original Sega Genesis haven’t gotten the same treatment. Now, one popular Genesis series is making a comeback, giving players a chance to rediscover a collection of games that didn’t always get the attention they deserved. These games are simple and fun, and their return might hint at even more exciting news to come.
Over the past few years, many classic Sega Genesis games are getting a second life, with some re-released on today’s consoles for both longtime fans and new players. We’re even starting to see sequels to these old favorites, probably because of the renewed interest in the original games. Given how many unique titles the Sega Genesis had, this is great news for anyone familiar with gaming’s past.
Ecco The Dolphin Is Getting A New Collection With Several Games From The Past

A new collection of Ecco the Dolphin games is coming to modern platforms, bringing back the classic Sega Genesis titles. Developed by A&R Atelier, Ecco the Dolphin: Complete will remaster the original games with contributions from many of the people who created the beloved, yet often overlooked, 16-bit classic.
This collection brings together Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, two classic Sega Genesis games that were never released on any console other than Sega’s. This is the first time many players will have a chance to experience these titles, and it’s a great way to introduce a new generation to the Ecco universe. While the third game, Ecco: Defender of the Future, and the spin-off Ecco Jr. aren’t currently included, that might change as more details about the collection are revealed.
Ecco the dolphin is largely overlooked as a video game icon because his games were primarily available on the Sega Genesis. While the original creators have attempted to revive the character with new projects and spiritual successors – including several Kickstarter campaigns – these efforts haven’t resonated with audiences. This collection may be the best way to reintroduce Ecco to a new generation of players, and hopefully recapture the magic for those who remember him fondly from the Genesis era.
Continued Efforts To Bring Back Ecco The Dolphin May Lead To Something More In The Near Future

As a huge Ecco the Dolphin fan, I’m so excited about this collection! It’s not just a re-release; they’re adding a ton of cool stuff like achievements and leaderboards, especially for speedrunners. But the best part? We can finally make our own custom courses! Imagine playing levels from Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco 2 however we want, in any order! The original developers told Polygon they wanted players to be able to create and share their own unique experiences, and that’s exactly what this lets us do. It’s a dream come true!
This release comes alongside last year’s news about a potential new Ecco the Dolphin game. Ed Annunziata, the original creator of Ecco, hinted at future plans for a new installment on a former Xbox website. The success of this collection could increase the chances of that game becoming a reality. While there’s talk of modern gameplay features for a new title, details about a possible third Ecco game remain unconfirmed.
While we don’t have a release date for the remastered games in this collection yet, recent discussions with the developers suggest we might hear more in 2026. Fans of the Sega Genesis will be especially excited to finally have confirmation of Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, a beloved game that many remember fondly from the golden age of home consoles.
Now that the complete Ecco the Dolphin collection is officially happening, we want to hear what you think! Share your thoughts in the comments or discuss it with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
