Universal Pictures plans to continue featuring its iconic monsters, and rumors suggest that Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan might return for another adventure.
Over 25 years after the original film debuted in 1999, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reportedly considering returning for a new installment in the popular adventure series. While Universal Pictures hasn’t confirmed many details, the film is said to be directed by Radio Silence – the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on movies like Ready or Not and the recent Scream films.
Rumors suggest other actors from The Mummy franchise may also be involved in the new project. Sean Daniel, a producer on the original films, is confirmed to return. He’ll reportedly be joined by producers James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak from Project X Entertainment, who have previously collaborated with the film’s directors, Radio Silence, on movies like Abigail.
According to one report, this isn’t a complete restart of the series. Instead, it’s a continuation of the story that ignores what happened in the third film. David Coggeshall penned the script.
Reports are surfacing that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz might be back for another Mummy movie, just over a year after the first film was released.
According to Universal Pictures executive Jim Orr, The Mummy has become a key film in the adventure genre over the last twenty-five years, establishing a high standard for big-budget entertainment. The studio is excited to re-release the film for its 25th anniversary, giving longtime fans and new audiences a chance to experience the thrilling adventure and enduring story that made The Mummy so memorable.
