The New Mandalorian & Grogu Is Crushing It On Streaming Right Now (But There’s A Catch)

Even before its release, the movie The Mandalorian and Grogu is already proving popular on streaming platforms.

Just two weeks before the new Star Wars movie hits cinemas, a four-part Disney+ documentary series called Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu — A Special Look has quickly become popular on the streaming platform, currently ranking at number three.

Currently, The Testaments and Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord are the most popular titles. Daredevil: Born Again, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, Perfect Crown, Chernobyl: Inside the Meltdown, High Potential, Secrets of the Bees, and Dear Killer Nannies complete the top ten.

The docuseries is a hit in many countries worldwide. It’s currently the third most popular title on Disney+ in Sweden, and is performing well in Albania, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia.

The special look at Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is performing particularly well in the United States, as well as in the Czech Republic, Japan, Slovakia, and Spain, where it currently ranks as the second most-watched program.

The series Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu — A Special Look features short episodes, ranging from two to four minutes each. These episodes – titled “A Special Look,” “Creaturette,” “Grogu Joins the Conversation,” and “Larger Than Life” – offer fans a preview and behind-the-scenes look at the show.

A short, 10-minute documentary series has become surprisingly popular on Disney+, gaining enough traction to appear on the streaming charts alongside longer series like The Testaments, Star Wars: Maul, and Daredevil.

Disney hasn’t just been offering this sneak peek; they’ve been actively promoting The Mandalorian and Grogu in other ways too. For example, they screened the first 25 minutes of the show in cinemas on May the 4th, which is celebrated as Star Wars Day.

The new movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which follows the popular characters from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, is expected to earn $80 million during its opening weekend in theaters.

If these numbers are accurate, it would mark the lowest opening weekend box office total for any Star Wars film, surpassing the current record held by Solo: A Star Wars Story, which also debuted over Memorial Day weekend in 2018.

Okay, so Pedro Pascal is stepping back into the boots of Din Djarin for the next chapter of The Mandalorian – now titled The Mandalorian and Grogu. I was already excited, but the cast additions really got my attention! We’re talking Jeremy Allen White, Sigourney Weaver, and even Martin Scorsese joining the adventure. And thankfully, Jon Favreau is back at the helm, directing and co-writing the script alongside Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. As the creator of the original, Favreau clearly has a vision for where this story is going, and I’m eager to see it unfold.

It’s been a while since we got a Star Wars movie – the last one was The Rise of Skywalker back in 2019. I’m so excited that after The Mandalorian and Grogu, Disney is planning to release Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy, in May 2027! I’ve been waiting for more Star Wars and it’s great to finally have a release date on the horizon.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on Friday, May 22, 2026.
