Netflix’s Extraction has become the most popular action movie series created for streaming. The first film, released in 2020, allowed Chris Hemsworth to showcase a different side of himself beyond his role as Thor. Director Sam Hargrave impressed viewers with incredible, continuous action shots, and Hemsworth wowed audiences with his impressive stunts as the skilled mercenary, Tyler Rake. A sequel, Extraction 2, was a natural next step, and it delivered even more excitement. Hargrave, Hemsworth, and their team built on the success of the first film, making the sequel bigger and earning even more praise for the series.
It was an easy decision for Netflix to make Extraction 3, but fans have been waiting quite a while since the second movie came out in 2023. It’s almost been three years (as of June), and we finally have some updates on the progress of Extraction 3.
Extraction 3 Production Start Date Confirmed
Before any movie or TV show starts filming, it needs to be officially registered, which is usually the first public sign that the project is going ahead. Now, it looks like Extraction 3 is moving forward – production listings show principal photography scheduled to begin in June 2026 and continue through early October. Filming will take place in Sydney, Australia, a change of scenery from the previous Extraction films, which were shot in India, Thailand, Prague, and Vienna. Originally, Extraction 2 was also planned to film in Australia, but had to move to the Czech Republic because of COVID-19 restrictions.
A third Extraction movie was officially confirmed soon after the second film became a hit on Netflix in 2023. Chris Hemsworth, continuing a pattern, used Netflix’s TUDUM event to share the news about the upcoming movie.

Chris Hemsworth expressed his deep gratitude to fans for their support of the first Extraction movie, saying they made a sequel possible. Speaking at the TUDUM event, he hinted at a third film, revealing that discussions about Extraction 3 are already underway due to the positive reaction to Extraction 2.
Sam Hargrave is back to direct Extraction 3, and Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Tyler Rake. The film is a production of AGBO, the company founded by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are also producing. Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin are returning as producers as well. Fraser Taggart, known for his work on Mission: Impossible 7 & 8, will be the director of photography, and Joe Russo is writing the script again.
Extraction Spinoff Series & Films Are Also In the Works

The world of Extraction is expanding! Before the third movie comes out, there will be a spin-off series called Mercenary: An Extraction Series. Filming began in late 2025, and the show will have eight episodes. It stars Omar Sy, known from X-Men: Days of Future Past and Jurassic World, along with Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Waleed Zuaiter (The Girlfriend), Ed Speleers (Star Trek: Picard), and Sacha Dhawan (Marvel’s Iron Fist).
I’m hearing some exciting news about the Extraction universe! Not only are they continuing the TV series, but they’re also developing a spin-off movie called TYGO. This one’s heading to South Korea and will tell the story of a child soldier who eventually becomes a deadly mercenary. The cast is seriously impressive – Don Lee (you might know him from Train to Busan), Lee Jin-uk (Squid Game), and even Lisa from BLACKPINK, who recently appeared in The White Lotus Season 3, making her acting debut! Lee Sang-yong, the director behind The Roundup, is at the helm, working from a script by Cha Woo-jin, who penned Holy Night: Demon Hunters. It sounds like a really interesting expansion of the Extraction world.
While there’s no official release date yet for Extraction 3, the first two movies took about two years to go from filming to hitting screens. Based on that pattern, we’re predicting Extraction 3 could be released around Summer 2028. Share your favorite action movies with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
